"We were greeted warmly and given the choice of our own table. Drinks, including an elder cocktail with cucumber and mint, were served promptly. The cocktail selection seemed limited on Tuesdays. The starters, soup of the day and fried sweet tart with spicy tomato jam, were decent but not exceptional. The main course of lamb backstrap was cooked to my liking, served with tasty but scant butternut squash cream, rosemary and garlic terrine, and tender stem broccoli. However, the portion size could have been more generous. The wild boar pudding lacked depth of flavor and needed accompaniments like smoked bacon or truffle. Desserts, sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream, and classic strawberry tart with whipped cream, were disappointing with overly firm pastries. Despite the shortcomings in the meal, the strong cappuccinos at the end were a satisfying conclusion. Overall, the Black Horse has room for improvement and hopefully our experience will be better on our next visit."

A really warm welcome, staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. The food was excellent, and a reasonable price. Highly recommend, although you should probably book as it was pretty busy. we will be back if we are in the area

We enjoyed a delicious meal on Saturday evening in charming surroundings with very good service. The sweet potato pakoras for starters were superb and although I found the home roasted ham too sweet to go with egg and chips, I ate the while lot because...it was so tender and delicious! My husband really enjoyed the pork belly. Expensive but worth it for something special.

we had a fantastic Sunday dinner, roast beef and all circumcisions. it was so delicious, delicate bark and wonderful gravy. huge plate full, which very filled, but we could share a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for desert that was divine! very friendly staff, which looked after us very well. beautiful atmosphere, live music in the huge outdoor area was also good. we will definitely come back. it was great. in my excitement to eat my meal, I forgot to make a photo!

Some of our walking group stayed for lunch. The bar staff were great, very friendly and we had a good laugh with them. Several real ales lagers available. An extensive menu ,but most of us chose the Ciabatta's. These were probably the best I've...had , different fillings , salad coleslaw. I recommend the fried chicken . We all had a most enjoyable lunch highly recommend going there There is also a large garden area , should you choose to sit outside. Good car park opposite the pub

we went for a family dinner beautiful village pub, ate at 17.30 clock, really friendly staff nothing was too much annoyed. Eating was good, as we went on Sunday, there was only a limited menu to choose, 7 of us had the Sunday roast,...lamb or bark, no black left. the other order was fish and chips. my only little weight was that the bratkartoffels were a bit hard, maybe made earlier and kept warm? and the cheese sauce on the veg was very casual. reheated in a microwave? other than a great place to eat

The food at this restaurant was delicious, with the belly pork being a standout dish. The starters were also tasty. However, upon arrival, the staff seemed more interested in seating diners rather than allowing guests to enjoy pre-drinks at the bar. This focus on efficiency took away from the overall dining experience. The bar staff appeared overwhelmed and unable to serve drinks to patrons at the bar, as they were busy fulfilling orders for tables. This left a negative impression on an otherwise pleasant dinner location.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant and we chose it as a meeting point halfway between us and our cousins whom we hadn't seen in over 3 years. We received a warm welcome from the very friendly and professional staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. The food was perfectly presented, the portions were generous, and everything was excellently prepared. Everyone in our group ordered something different and everyone was pleased with their choice. After our delicious meal, we enjoyed sitting outside in the beautiful gardens. Thanks to the staff at the Black Horse in Elton, our get-together was a very successful and enjoyable experience.

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
