"We checked the website first and Sunday lunch menu (which admittedly says it’s a sample and may change) it mentions nut roast, when I called to book the day before I did ask if there was a nut roast and was told yes. The vegetarian option today though was two veggie sausages which was a bit of a disappointment. The food was quite nice though, reasonably choice of tasty veg and we did enjoy the meal. It would have been better if they could think of an option better than a couple of veggie sausages though. I’m not so sure £15 is reasonable for the veggie option today. Staff were polite, it wasn’t busy but still didn’t get asked if the food was ok soon after we started eating (to me that’s bone basic customer service). I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but the place didn’t really have much atmosphere, it was OK but I’m not sure we’ll go back."

Lovely room, nothing was too much trouble and dinner was absolutely amazing! Perfectly cooked steak -both of us loved the whole meal!

Really disappointed by this place. It was OK but they have some nobheads sat at the bar which spoil the whole environment. Little gobby fat guy.

A group went for the seniors menu. The food was delicious and served hot. It was plated out, so no messing around waiting for vegetables and sides to arrive. Very good value for money.

The Sunday carvery lunch at this restaurant was fantastic. The selection of vegetables was excellent and all cooked perfectly. The service was outstanding. I will definitely be coming back.

The four of us had a very nice 2 course meal. Asked for something off menu and they willingly obliged. Couldn’t manage a dessert due to the generous portions. Great atmosphere, bar and serving staff were brilliant. Great night out

Had our wedding at the Black Horse, 2 weeks ago and it could have not gone any better. Gail and her team, were exceptional and attentive. All our needs throughout the ceremony and evening meal were taken care of...I highly recommend the venue. H K

I am disappointed to say that my experience at this restaurant was very poor. The food was below average and the beer was expensive. Additionally, there was a loud party in the back room with small children running around the bar area, making it difficult to enjoy a peaceful evening with friends. On a positive note, the staff were friendly. However, I do not think I will be returning to this restaurant.

I had a wonderful dining experience tonight! I don't often eat out, but my kids were thirsty so we decided to stop for a drink and let them play in the charming outdoor play area. Afterward, we decided to stay for dinner at 5:30. The staff were extremely friendly and seated us promptly at a clean table with beautiful decor. We opted for the £10 Monday special and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and piping hot food. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
