"I believe it is not fair to give a complete review of the restaurant until lockdown restrictions are fully lifted. Keep in mind that we visited during the first weekend that indoor dining was allowed. I was initially concerned about the limited selection of cask beer, but the choice of Master Brew and Whitstable Bay Pale did not appeal to me. However, the pub has a charming old-world maritime theme with wooden beams and multiple rooms that make it feel like sitting in an old sailing ship. The staff, all friendly and female, were more focused on following Covid regulations than pouring a proper pint. The service was slow and the pints were filled to the very top without much of a head. The pub has a large garden in the back that we had to navigate through to enter, as they enforce a one-way system. It is conveniently located for visitors to Standard Quay, mainly tourists I presume."

Visited just after it reopened, fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. It is a beautiful building in a great location, and the staff were really welcoming.

Just reopened after being closed for some time, and the chef that used to work at The Bowl Inn has taken over and 2 of the staff from the bowl are managing. The food and atmosphere were excellent

This pub used to be pretty decent, but went today and it's really gone downhill. Food took hours, waiting staff didn't take down table numbers and served up to the wrong tables. Food was pretty rubbish and low quality. Will be back again to see if it's turned around, because it used to be a good place, but not any time soon. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 1 Voir le carte

We gave the anchor a second visit since the new management took over. The new barmaid who joined today could not have been more lovely! Excellent, friendly service. Lovey rosé wine. Good quality pint of Whitstable bay, poured beautifully. Well done guys. Keep up the good work! Nice to see food back on the menu. The baguettes looked delicious. We shall be back in to try the food soon.

Used to go here on a regular basis , popped in for a welcoming pint on Saturday with my wife we thought) the most miserable landlady who was not in the slightest welcoming to us , a real atmosphere of zero, it felt like a pub dieing on its feet, Last sad throws of life absolutely freezing inside, no fires on even though it was 6 degrees outside, only one draught beer bitter on out of 8 pumps, drunk up and went to the elephant with warm cozy log fires, 6 real ales always on. Won't be going back to the anchor anytime soon

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
