"We had been planning to visit Schweiger2 for a long time but had always be thwarted by the long lead times for booking. Finally we managed to secure a table and we were really looking forward to the evening. We really liked the small dining room and the athmosphere. The chef briefy introduced himself and enquired about allergies etc as there was only a single menu without choices. The evening started with some freebies which included a Flammkuchen (nice but not very special), an artichoke cream (average) and an oyster with caviar of trout and a foam (superb). This was a reasonable start but from there it was mostly downhill. The real problem with the food is its extreme overcomplication which often did not make any sense (at least to us). Accompaniments that overpowered completely the fish or meat, or two plates arriving (one with a ravioli with tomato and then little items around the theme of tomato on another plate) which made it complicated to eat etc. The bill of around 360 Euro was almost as high as the next day at the Atelier (see separate report) but the food at Schweiger2 was inferior, in fact really miles away in quality. Quite frankly, I would not even award a single Michelin star to Schweiger2. In fact, we were wondering whether perhaps there was a change in ownership (but keeping the name) or at perhaps a new chef as we really struggled to reconcile the performance with the high recommendations that this restaurant came with. For this sort of money you can eat far far better in Munich and we see little reason to return."
