Came here when visiting York. Friendly attentive staff ended up coming back in the evening for a quiz which was thoughly enjoyable despite us coming comfortably last. The oak room at the front of the pub was particularly cosy.

I was on my first solo trip and eating alone can be so nerve wracking! The two boys working were so helpful and kind and the food and service was fantastic. Beautiful atmosphere and quick service and were very obliging when I asked if they could charge my phone for me

The food was average. There was very little gravy on the roast dinner, and when we requested more, we were charged extra. The woman behind the bar was unfriendly and corrected customers if they didn't use the correct name for their drink, even when their order was clear. Voir le carte

The pub was nice, but the music was a bit too loud. I had Sunday lunch and opted for the three meat option. The rolled belly pork was strange, overcooked, and didn't taste fresh. The chicken was passable, but the beef was a bit tough. The vegetables were good, however. Would I choose the same meal again? Probably not.

Really friendly place with great character, charm and atmosphere. I ordered the trio of meats from their Sunday roast, the roast beef perfectly cooked, Yorkshire pudding BIG and the roast pork is one of the best pieces of pork I have ever had. All the staff were friendly, responsive and obviously very happy in their place of work. Happy staff happy customers. Thank you Royal Oak for a perfect meal!

Very disappointing considering I was told it was one of the best places to go for a roast in York. It started with one waiter stating he needed to check if they had defrosted any more chicken…. There were two hairs in my food one hidden under my chicken breast and one wrapped around a parsnip. The dish was replaced but the food was sub par not to the standard we had been told. No one came back to the table to check on the food, my mother in laws food was like warm even tho she asked for it to be as hot as they could make it. A mild apology and £4 off the bill for two hairs which put me off my food and everything was just overly disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and I certainly... Voir le carte
