"Went to this restaurant because we could not book anywhere else and it has a very good reputation. In fact we went on successive nights. On the first night one of us had an excellent pan of mussels, followed by grilled sardines which were also excellent. This was becasue the main menu had a much higher price for the mussels than the advert on the table, the assumption was that the latter is half quantity which turned out to be incorrect. The other had lamb in red wine sauce which was excellent and highly recommended. The Portuguese wine was OK. Lucky to get a table on the second night. One of us had gambas in a spicy sauce which was very good, followed by octopus in a clay pot - actually a metal dish similar to a flattened kahari. The octopus was a little tough but the sauce etc was very nice. The other had zander in a lemon sauce which was quite tasty. Portuguese wine was OK.The restaurant was very busy on both nights. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating and the service was very good. When we are next in Hamburg we will visit this restaurant again, to try the rest of an interesting menu.As always restaurant reviews are highly subjective depending on values in relation to food quality, ambience, service etc."

We had three lovely dishes of fish (two mixed fish plates, one octopus casserole). All was great, though quite expensive. The waiters were friendly and attentive.

The main dish was 4 types of fish with boiled potatoes and seafood salad. plenty for one person. The star dish I tried there was the squid from the starters. it was AMAZING. highly recommended Voir le carte

Second time here in this busy Portuguese restaurant. The food is great. Seafood primarily. Their dorado superb. I tried the mixed fish this time. Very good. Nice Portuguese wines. I really like this place!

This is a true Portuguese restaurant, with Portuguese staff, owner and food. The food was very good and the staff made sure we felt at home. Apparently, it is always very busy so I advise getting there early or booking in advance.

Was in Hamburg for business and wandered into the Portuguese section...quickly checked TripAdvisor for ratings and made Restaurante Porto a priority. Was not disappointed! Good Portuguese wine, good Portuguese food. Co-worker was highly satisfied with gluten-free options. Highly recommend! Voir le carte

We only went here because it seemed to be the only place that had a free table on a busy evening, but glad we did. Had chicken cooked in a clay pot which was a lovely rich chicken on the bone stew, delicious, and chicken on a skewer. House white Wine was good for the price, nice atmosphere and tables not too close together, enjoyable night

Small restaurant with a good choice of Portuguese dishes. Quiet place in a district with more than 30, sometimes big and busy, restaurants. The young woman managing the restaurant is very knowledgeable advising us the best wine for both our dishes.I haven't been to all restaurants in the area but if you're in for Portuguese food in Hamburg this restaurant should be at the top of your list.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
