"we went to lunch on Saturday morning. as usual, eating was very good. I did not have too often fish and chips, but went for it and was not disappointed. the cod was huge and freshly prepared. only excellent. my other... half had the sampi and chips she thought was good. there were about other couples in the pub. presumably standard for a miserable Saturday midday. so I can't say how the things could be if very busy, but I've been here for years and it never disappointed. if they like ale, there is always a reasonable choice of the bar that was always of good quality from me."

"We had a family meal here on Christmas Eve this was my first time here but came highly recommend although this must have been an off day. We arrived on time one of our party however couldn’t make it so on arrival we notified the bar staff who were all miserable definitely not in the festive spirit also the chef who was rude told us we still had to pay for their as he had already cooked it who cooks all the meals before the guests have arrived as the food would be spoilt before we get it if we were running late. I would be happier to wait a bit for my food for it to be fresh cooked I am sure others would agree. Having preordered and pre booked there looked to be enough staff on but we seemed to get left with our empty plates for sometime after finishing which is never good. The food wasn’t great just mediocre pub grub. The worst bit was half of us came down very ill that night from the food which ruined Christmas day for us not good and still not great now. I will definitely not return and not recommend this establishment to anyone."

"We’ve eaten here a couple of times (we were the only ones actually in the restaurant on both occasions) food was very nice. Ordered a take away though and boy what a disappointment. Ordered early evening thinking it would be busy on a Saturday and my order was due to arrive at 6.20pm. 6.45pm I called to say nothing yet arrived, and was asked ‘what do you mean?’ I was then told my order had left and was on its way. Half an hour later, nothing still, so called again to be told that my order had never been received (albeit I had a confirmation of order and Just Eat told me exactly what time the order had been accepted by the restaurant) when queried why I had been told my order was on its way, I was told that ‘it was a mistake, you have not placed an order’ clearly management problems with this restaurant (which is sad) but in no way did anyone try and put right their wrong, nor was an apology forthcoming. Such a shame, and definitely the last visit/order from us."

"We stumbled upon this charming country pub while visiting family in the area, looking for something different from the standard chain pub fare. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the drinks and food we had for lunch, even though we arrived right before they closed the kitchen at 2pm. We opted for the hunters chicken and fish and chips, as they had run out of their popular pies. The portion sizes were generous for the price, especially the huge fish covered in a light and delicious homemade beer batter. The hunters chicken was also delectable, with a large chicken breast topped with bacon and BBQ sauce, served with a side of chips and salad. We highly recommend this pub if you're in the area, with a cozy outdoor seating area and even guest rooms available in their attached B&B."

"We had the pleasure of a Friday night meal here whilst enjoyinging a weekend of glamping at the nearby Wild with Nature. This is the nearest hostelry. Friday is fish night and right from the warm greeting of the landlord and the welcoming atmosphere through to leaving we had an excellent evening. The tables were well spaced, the staff wore masks and the food was tasty, and after just two courses we only had room for a coffee. My wife's King Prawn cocktail starter was a meal in itself, I asked for a single fishcake starter a request readily agreed to and delicious. My wife is gluten free and the gf haddock and chips were exceptional, the batter was the best she has tasted. Cod was also available. We have booked another glamping holiday next October and I look forward to returning to the White Hart."
