"We are here just before lock-down. The portions are designed for shepherds who have just come in off the moors after spending ten hours looking for lost sheep. You will not go home hungry however far you have walked. The quality of the ingredients is...superb tender chunks of meat, thick gravy and delicious short-crust pastry in the cow pie. Probably the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. My wife's sticky toffee pudding was literally swimming in toffee sauce far superior to any shop-bought one from Cartmel. This is a place that deserves to be widely known and, when things get back to normal, full of people enjoying the wonderful food."

Never been before, such a lovely quiet spot. Very welcoming and did us proud with a lovely lunch. Incidentally the ham is exceptional!

Friendly atmosphere, drinks reasonably priced. Food was alarmingly bad. Nothing fresh or tasty about it, poor helpings, poor watery gravy and served on freezing cold plates.

We ate here as a family of four all our food was lovely. The staff were really friendly. Our food came promptly Starters minestrone soup and salmon salad were tasty. Mains gammon and steak pie both tasty and with proper home made chips. Would return...again. Voir le carte

Visited many times (since the Returned with my son a week ago, and both sons on July. Excellent meals and service both times. Decent menu variety, but remains simple and unpretentious. The Gammon (which unfortunately many pubs have stopped offering) was the best...I have had for years. Highly recommended in all respects.

I recommend both, but the courts that the other members of the. my party also looked great. all in all it was a great pub lunch, and I'll be back.

we were made to feel really welcome as soon as we went through the tore of hostesses karen and tracey. they were both very helpful and friendly. my wife and I ordered both the half-deaded chicken that came with chips and salat. that was a very generous part that we really enjoyed. there was also a good selection of drinks and everything was favorable. we would have stayed longer, but it became dark and we had a mile back to our house. we highly recommend this venue. cathy and john, birmingham.

The dining experience and service at this restaurant were impeccable! We were a large group and booked two lunch hours in advance to see how busy it would be. We were welcomed with a very friendly greeting and the food started coming out as soon as we were ready. The dishes were amazing, from the simple starters to the seafood, steak, and lamb dishes - everything was hot and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the homemade Steak Pie with a rich gravy, and the chips were excellent. We will definitely be returning soon and I can't wait!

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
