"We were planning on going to The Meadowdore cafe but it only opened at 10, so we called here instead. I ordered a coffee £2.80) and eggs on toast £6) and found that it was very expensive. It came with 2 small pieces of sourdough bread which was nice but reinforced the 'very expensive ' comment above. Both poached eggs were hard and if I hadn 't been so hungry, I would have sent them back. I had to wait 5 minutes to get a knife and fork. Service wasn 't great. Upon entering, three menus were handed over but before we 'd even looked at it, we were asked if we were paying together or separate. Mid order, the staff member then turned his attention to 2 guests who came in who were residents. My friend had a full english £12) and a latte £3.20) and that was not good value at all. My other friend had porridge, pancakes and a latte at a total of £13.20). I have to say that they accommodated his request for oat milk in his porridge and coffee which was good, but the prices were simply too steep. All three of us did not feel that we had any value for money here at all and would not go back unless everywhere else was closed."

I believe this place in Coniston has the best coffee around. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. If you're planning on having their amazing full English breakfast, make sure you come hungry!

The staff at this restaurant is excellent. They serve a delicious breakfast that is perfect for fueling up before a hike. The coffee is also fantastic, and I recommend trying the Cumbrian sausages. Highly recommended!

I have been working in the Lake District for a while and really enjoy the area. When my mother visited me, we stopped by a small café for coffee. Everything was fine until I inquired about vegan cake options. The guy working behind the counter's attitude suddenly changed and he became rude and sarcastic. He had a conversation with his coworker for about 10 minutes trying to figure out if there were eggs or dairy in some of the cakes, showing they had no knowledge of their own food's allergens. We decided to just get some coffee as they weren't sure about the ingredients in the cake. When our coffees arrived, they were lukewarm and tasteless. My mom was disappointed, so I spoke with the guy t...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
