"The chef at The Larder on Goosegate has a light hand converting rich, succulent dishes into delicate, but savory melt-in-your mouth delights. On a Tuesday night in early September, I wandered down Goosegate looking for the restaurant. Went up a couple of steps and saw a posted menu for August. Climbed the stairs. On the first landing there were two closed doors. I was beginning to think the restaurant had closed, but I opened one to find a pleasant, informal dining room with windows overlooking Goosegate. There was an a la carte menu and a set price menu with fewer choices. I opted for the latter: three courses for 19.95 UK. The first course was battered baby squid with a mayonnaise sauce. The squid were succulent, with a delightful spiced crisp light coating. No sauce was required. I told the waiter that the sauce was a detriment to the delicate dish; she agreed, but said customers had demanded a sauce. The main course was an exquisitely thoughtful combination of rich dishes contrasted with bitter roasted raddichio and a mild beetroot sauce that tasted good with everything. The Blythburgh pork belly was perfection: a crisp crust with unctuous meat and fat that melted in your mouth. The accompanying Dauphinoise potatoes were magically both luxuriously rich, yet light. The best plate I've eaten in years. For the dessert, the blackberry cheesecake was again surprisingly light, yet flavorful with its fresh blackberries on top. Heaven. Service was delightful. I got to chat with the waiter, as surprisingly there were few customers that night. The view out onto Goosegate was a diversion while savoring my meal. My only caveat about The Larder on Goosegate is its inaccessibility due to the required flight of stairs."

We hadn't been to The Larder on Goose Gate for a couple of years after a very, very poor experience last time.

Nice enough room but very noisy and full of office groups. Service was nice and friendly but food very disappointing

I can't believe I've never found this place. Really great food, friendly staff, laid back ambience. Will be back very soon.

Went there with my wife following good reviews. I was not disappointed. The food was delicious andperfectly cooked. The service was excellent and quick but never hurried. You get a sense of a place that cares about what it does and that shows.

After a good film we wanted a suitably decent meal. We hadn't booked, it was a Saturday night but The Larder squeezed us in. Superb starters pigeon breast crispy egg with barley. My fish main of sand sole was also excellent, my partners veggie option was a bit bland and not quite up there. Still, a delicious meal with a good bottle of wine. Will certainly return and stick with the meat and fish options.

We had a really lovely post-lockdown meal here and it did not disappoint! The starters (lamb scrumpet and pea bruschetta) were a fantastic way to start the meal and our mains were delicious. The sea bass skin was perfectly crisp and the accompaniments went with it perfectly. Although the steak looked small it was more than enough and full of flavour. The house red wine was affordable and delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly and made it a really enjoyable evening.

Mid week after work before a 7:30pm show at The Royal Centre (10 minutes' walk away). I went mackerel starter and then monkfish main course, both of which were excellent; my wife (vegetarian) enjoyed her substantial bowl of Gnudi (a little bit like gnocchi) which she'd never encountered before. Neither of us could pass up the excellent sounding chocolate dessert, which was delightfully rich. We left full but not stuffed so just right. Friendly and efficient service. Room a tiny bit cold, particularly sat by the massive windows the radiators were not on. Sad to see we were the only people dining they deserve to be much busier. Sensible prices for the high quality of the cooking.

Three friends and I frequented ‘The Larder’ on Goosegate in Nottingham on Friday. This is definitely a restaurant I would go to again and is an ideal restaurant for where you would want to dine and impress a client for business. It serves high quality British and European food, with original choices for each course, that resulted in an exceptional dining experience for each of us. The restaurant is on the first floor and away from the bustle of the City streets. The service was professional and efficient alongside a relaxed atmosphere and surprisingly easy on the ear considering all the elements you experience. It might be my age, but it was wonderful to have a meal with quality conversation...
