"Having not eaten here for a couple of years we paid a visit last night with high hopes. Sadly the customer service was somewhat lacking and although the sharing starter was lovely the mains were nothing special, I ended up leaving over half my meal. The waitress was attentive and helpful however, the bar manager ? not so. We asked three times if we could have the fire lit as we were a little cold, finally he came to assist, but was very obviously not happy about it. He then proceeded to butt into our conversation and give his unwanted opinion, correcting me on something I said, apparently the customer is not always right even if they are not talking about anything remotely related to the food or even the establishment! When it came to desserts we were told in a rather belligerent manner that the kitchen had now closed he would have to do them himself. Did we need to know that? We obviously decided not to stay for dessert informed him of this, saying that we ‘didn’t wish to put him out’ his response was quite pugnacious and defensive. Considering how hard it is for the food industry in the current economic climate customer service and quality food should be of utmost importance for any eatery, apparently not at The Lion! We shall not be returning or recommending the place to anyone, but I doubt that the gentleman in charge last night will give a hoot about this."

"Have been wanting to go here for a while and finally got the time to book and go. Wow it did not disappoint. The staff and venue were very welcoming. It felt warm and homely in the bar and a great set up for dogs... especially with their doggie dinners! Didn't have a dog but if I had one this would be my go to place! We sat in the restaurant area where the carvery set up is and it was beautifully decorated. A little cramped with all the tables but it worked. The food options were plentiful and for someone who's fussy I had plenty of options. The food tasted amazing also and already we can't wait to go back. The only downside is my partner said it got really loud and couldn't hear me well as the evening went on and it got busier. It felt like the room echoed. There was a kid next to us using the radiator as a road for its toy car and a birthday party on the table on the other side of us with kids, so pretty loud. And the other thing is the car park is a bit tight but nothing they can do about that of course. All in all looking forward to going back asap!"

"My experience at this pub was like a combination of all the worst things you could encounter on a trip out. Despite being advertised as dog-friendly, we were restricted to a small decking area with limited seating and a blocked view of the garden. The kids played on the play area, but we couldn't properly supervise them due to the layout. The prices for drinks were high, and the cost of snacks was downright ridiculous. We were shocked to find that our bill came to £27 for just four bags of crisps. When we questioned this, the staff adjusted the price slightly before insisting on the higher amount. We ended up leaving after just one round, as we had never paid such inflated prices for drinks before. Another family we spoke to also felt taken advantage of with the snack prices. Overall, our experience was disappointing and overpriced."

"The young staff at this restaurant were charming, but the older supervisor was rude. When I ordered a vegan soup, it came with buttered sliced bread. When I questioned the bread, I was abruptly told that I should have specified that I wanted it vegan. However, we had asked for it to be vegan and it was marked as such on the menu. Although they gave me plain bread afterwards, the experience was soured by being scolded and also who serves pre-buttered sliced bread anyway? The menu even mentioned a granary roll. It's disappointing to see this decline in quality at a restaurant that used to be better."
