Hinds Head - Carte

We stayed here for one night in August for a friend's wedding and it was great. Given the pub was over-run with the wedding party with a few kids the staff were efficient and friendly.

The service was excellent, Tom and Henry took great care of us. The Sunday roast lunch was fantastic with extra gravy! The beer selection was also very good. We will definitely be back soon.

We stayed at the restaurant for one night before a wedding the following day. Our room was very comfortable and matched the photos on the website perfectly, which is not always the case. Very slow service. Very limited menu. Liver and bacon option had only tiny slivers of bacon pieces with very tough liver. When I say tough it was hard to saw through with a sharp knife. Not surprised the place was nearly empty. Another place that thinks it can get away with very high prices for an ok sounding menu but then turns out really substandard reheated brewery supplied ready meals. Avoid.

A busy hotel and restaurant, service was acceptable if not a little slow so its not fast food. As a hotel the carpark was a real challenge so give yourself plenty of time to find a space. Cigarette smoke was very obvious in the restaraunt which tainted the food I should have said something but thought it was just me. The food was of good quality although the menu was limted in breath and not all items were priced.

We arrived half an hour before our booking time, but we were seated and self promptly by the friendly lady who was on duty. There only appeared to be 2 front of house staff on duty, but they were efficient and worked well together. We had black garlic celeriac soup for starters, which was delicious. This was followed by calves liver (which just melted in my mouth) mash for me and an enormous portion of fish chips for my friend. All dishes were cooked well and were lovely. We waited nearly 30 mins for our drinks, then an hour for the food. Well they call it food! I wanted a burger and chips and there was a mixture of other orders. Well I'm not kidding when I say, this was the worst burger I have ever been presented with. Including the burnt bun, it was about 1 high and very burnt. The others in the party had similar experiences with their food apart from two people that had the fish and chips, so they called the duty manager. after some haggling we eventually sent the food back and received refund of such for the food. We only chose to stay at this hotel because it was convenient for our wedding at The Old Mill, which is a wonderful venue. However, I strongly advise against staying at this hotel/pub. The staff were unhelpful, rude, and blamed everything on a recent change in ownership. The service was terrible and they did not do much to assist us. They agreed to check in our luggage and provide keys by 11am, but the keys were not ready. Our bags were supposed to be sent to the rooms, but they were left out on the main staircase until midnight when we returned. We booked the hotel over a year ago at a guaranteed rate of £135 for all rooms, but unfortunately, they said they could no longer offer that rate....

New chef So decided to test out the desert menu with my street dwelling side kick and our tribe of children. Had tea and lemon mini tart, which was a real treat. So nice, wish they 'd offer a 'double your slice for a £1 deal, as I would have done! Alongside this, ordered the cheese board. Now, as an esteemed and well known cheese board devotee, I set my game high. Selection of three neat chunks of cheese, two sides of relish and a good handful of the fabulous triple cooked fries with two crackers. My only complaints being the lack of crackers two felt a little measly., and a lack of butter I 'm sure she would have been provided if asked, but I was over the coffee and on to the Prosecco... so...
