"I had already walked through the Bergisch Gladbacher district of Refrath in the afternoon and had looked at the restaurants located there. In the evening I decided to visit the German restaurant near the S-Bahn station. Behind the outside door I first came into a wind trap of heavy fabric tracks, sitting behind it and standing about fifteen people around a big vault, along with there were seven tables, two of which were occupied. Unbehelligt by any form of service I sought myself a free table and took place. Operation Both waiters were of the type of “bee”, i.e. both of the more rustic type of beer carrier, but quite nice and friendly. One brought me the menu after a short time and asked if I wanted a carol or an Oktoberfest beer. I asked for a time of contemplation because I wanted to study the map and he left. Overall, the service was quite good, especially the beverage delivery worked smoothly as expected. Food The menu offers mainly German cuisine, a focus is on carving dishes. It is pointed out that due to the always fresh preparation, waiting times could occur. I ordered “Schnitzel Jäger Art with fries and salads” (12,80 € and as a local drink a cereal (0,2l for 1,40 €). The waiter thanked and disappeared towards Tresen, but appeared almost as fast and served the beer. Little later he brought a plate with napkin and cutlery as well as salt and pepper shakers. Again a short time later he brought the salad as an appetizer. It consisted of various leaf salads (peace, elk leaf, corn, carrot, radishes and cucumber slices and tomato vats. The dressing was obviously stirred on the basis of acidic cream itself, the whole very well. I hadn't eaten the salad when the waiter brought the plate with my carving dish. Fortunately, a sliced carving of a little more than a hand size was only partly covered with a cream sauce which contained a number of mushroom slices from fresh mushrooms. In addition, a chop of fries, hot and crispy and really seasoned. The carving was hot, the meat was tender and tasty, with the mushrooms very tasty. The size of the portion was right to get saturated. Ambience As mentioned at the outset, the facility is more like a pub than a restaurant. The chairs as well as the table frames were made of medium-brown wood, the table tops made of light wood and without table tops. A small pot plant, a wind light and a beer lid holder per table were the entire decoration. The floor consisted of artificial stone tiles in gray with black and white sprinklers, there were several wooden wall shelves with old beer jars on it. A large window to the side had a deep window bench, on it a forest of pot plants. The walls were up to approx. 1 m tall with the same dark wood, from which the treses and the wardrobes consisted. On the yellowish walls there were numerous old engravings, etchings and photos. Cleanliness The guest room did not give rise to complaints, even in the pot flowering jungle on the one window bench there were neither dust nor spider webs. Glasses, dishes and cutlery were also clean. The toilets proved to be completely refurbished, technically at the last stand and very clean."
