"Just happened across this place while driving through and having a quick walk around the village and was surprised to see vegan options on the menu. Walked in and were greeted by happy and immediately helpful staff who told us where to park and double checked vegan availability with the chef. Service was amazing throughout, food was very nice (including perfect onion rings and tasty apple and celeriac soup), and we even had 3 yummy desert choices that made it difficult to decide (an unusual and delightful experience to have). Staff were flexible and even offered to make one-off vegan items from available ingredients. All in all, a wonderful surprise so are now planning to come back someday."

"We do not eat a lot of pizza but have to say the pizza here is excellent. We all (X4) had a different choice and everyone was more than impressed. The premises are well presented and lovely and clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. If you are visiting Dartmoor and fancy a pizza you should really give this place a go."

"My friends and I recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch at The Union, our go-to meeting spot. The pies here are always exceptional, and this time we tried the Christmas turkey, sausage bacon, and stuffing pie, which was absolutely delicious. The pie was generously filled and the gravy was superb. The steak and kidney pudding that the boys ordered was also fantastic. We were so full from our mains that we didn't have any room left for dessert, but that's okay because The Union never fails to impress."

"When we entered the bar area it was busy and there seemed to be a nice Friday night atmosphere. We stood at the bar and waited and waited to be served , eventually a young man arrived and we ordered 2 bottles of wine to have with our meal. The pub is beautifully decorated inside, very picturesque and in-keeping with the village. We have eaten here several times in the past including before the fire so we were really looking forward to our evening. Both couples ordered the baked Brie which arrived beautifully served however one was hot and the other completely cold. I looked for a waitress but gave up and took my cold Brie to the kitchen who apologised and quickly returned with it piping hot , it was very pleasant. My belly pork and mash was beautiful and the other 2 rump steaks were very tasty. However the celiac potatoes were hard and under cooked and even when we mentioned it to the waitress she just smiled and ignored our displeasure. We didn’t bother with desserts as £205 for 2 starters 4 mains and 2 bottles of wine in nothing more than a gastro pub was enough. Such a shame as this was a fabulous village pub with a great selection on the menu and now it’s all fur coat and no knickers."

"We recently celebrated our third visit to the beautiful Bovey Castle and are already planning to have lunch in the brasserie for our first night. The food was delicious and the staff were simply wonderful. I especially enjoyed the food presentation, as it made me even more excited to eat. The price we paid for dinner was well worth it. We were so happy with our stay that we will definitely be returning for dinner. Our meal was enjoyable and we are grateful for making our celebration unforgettable. We will definitely be back again."
