"We had a disappointing experience at the Gorge Cafe in Cheddar. The service was poor, the food was bland, and the prices were high. Despite our hopes for a special meal during our visit, we were let down. Upon entering the quiet cafe, we were ignored by the staff while waiting in line to order. A person who arrived after us was served before us, which was frustrating. When we finally placed our order for two cheddar quiches with salad and two treacle tarts, we were shocked by the total cost of over £40. The food took a while to arrive, and one of the treacle tarts was carelessly placed on our table. The quiche was buried under unappetizing lettuce and lacked seasoning. We had to ask for salt, pepper, and other condiments, which meant waiting in line again. Overall, the food was subpar and we left most of it uneaten, including the disappointing treacle tart. The service was inattentive and overall, we felt ripped off and dissatisfied with our experience."

Came here as the cakes looked delicious.. Got a hazelnut and chocolate tart with cream to take away which was gorgeous but for £4.79 it was very expensive and not sure worth it.

This restaurant is a perfect choice for visitors to Cheddar. The food is fantastic, the service is excellent, and on a sunny day with all the doors open, the ambiance is unbeatable. Don't miss out on this must-visit spot.

Lovely little cafe with very friendly staff. The cheddar and caramelised onion quiche and sausage toasty were amazing! Very organised and well ran even for a busy Saturday lunch time. Would definitely pop back in if in the area!

Stopped off for lunch and the food was very good. Generous portion and tasty. Staff were friendly and everything seemed clean. Only downside is that there is only one toilet but that’s probably due to size restrictions of the building. Voir le carte

Went for lunch after a walk and had 2 different quiches from the delicious display. They were served hot with side salad and homemade chutneys (which we bought to takeaway as they were delicious). A clean, friendly family run business and it is now one of my favourites

Gorgeous cafe with a lovely location, we had the steam pasty, cheddar pie and goats cheese and chutney quiche. When you're visiting we recommend trying the cheddar and potato pie. It was refreshing having a meal in a cafe that doesn't just serve sandwiches and cream teas.

Popped into cheddar after staying nearby. Have never noticed this cafe before so called in to give it a try. Lovely little place. Had some gorgeous looking pies/pasties/cakes. Not the cheapest place to go. Just short of £20 for 2 latte’s and 2 bacon sandwiches. Pretty busy for a Monday morning. Voir le carte

The most delicious brunch we have had. We were in the area for the weekend attending a wedding and saw this cafe on the Friday when we visited cheddar, and decided to return for brunch on the Sunday before heading home. The food was delicious, great atmosphere and happy staff. My 6 year old loved his milkshake. Highly recommended! We will be back !

The tea at this restaurant was delightful, but the cinnamon bun was disappointing as it was undercooked and doughy. However, the pasty I took away was delicious, filled with meat and vegetables. I highly recommend it. The food display looked appealing. The restaurant was dog-tolerant rather than dog-friendly, as my small dog had to sit on the cold floor instead of on my lap.

"Been wanting to try this ‘alternative’ pub for a while. Large car park with plenty of space, no steps or slopes into the bar. Access for buggies, wheelchairs etc should be okay, my mother walks with the aid of a frame and has no issues. Inside the decor is certainly alternative but in a great way, loved it! Plenty to look at, keep you entertained and talk about as you wait for your food or just pass the time. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there was just one guy running the bar, taking food orders and bringing food out; I thought he needed a helper or coworker really. There is a decent bar area with seating or there is more ‘restaurant’ style seating further back beyond the bar. We chose to sit in the bar area seating which is a mixture of booth and chairs. Dogs are allowed in which is great, there is free Wi-Fi which is good as my mobile signal was very poor. The menu is standard pub food, quite a bit of choice and plenty of options for gluten free. I chose to have the fillet steak cooked medium, I had a starter of garlic bread but chose for it all to come out together. Mother had beef brisket loaded fries, the portion was massive so I had to help her finish it. The steak was perfectly cooked, I chose to have the peppercorn sauce; this was a bit watery and bland. The steak comes with chunky chips, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. For dessert I had the nutty apple crumble with ice cream, it was okay. Overall this is a great venue with acceptable food, friendly staff and awesome decor that will keep you talking and looking all night. Based on this experience I would visit again."
