"What’s find! We parked in the car park and walked 30 seconds to the cafe which feels like it’s nestled in the middle of a woods. This wholesome cafe serves everything you would want from panini’s, toasties, soup and sandwich combos and sweet treats. We had the Big breakfast which gives you everything on one plate! (Just check out the photo! The food was excellent and complimented by the wonderful, friendly staff. What a team! Ensured we had everything we needed and answered any of our questions. They have a great knowledge of the area of your after any advice too. The chickens in the courtyard and ducks in the pond made for such a cute quaint atmosphere. We are talking away some sweet treats, so worth nothing you can do this if your feeling full from your savoury. You have to give this place a try, it’s unspoilt location, fab staff and awesome food get a 10/10 from us!"

Our holiday would never be the same if we didn’t visit here. The food is delicious and by far the best breakfast you could find. Staff and surroundings are superb.

One of the best breakfasts I've had! The produce of every bit on our plate was delicious, such a cute little place, I even left with homemade chutney, beetroot and ginger beer, from the little stall outside which helps feed the chickens. The staff are so lovely and friendly, will definitely be back the next time we visit the area.

Loved both our visits to Brambles while having a week's self-catering holiday in Dalbeattie. Went for lunch mid-week, and then again for breakfast on our last day. Both times the food was amazing and staff so friendly, nothing too much trouble. Even the dog loved it!! (Dog biscuits!! Lemon meringue pie to be recommended particularly!!

Have been visiting Gemma's place many times while staying in Portling Bay. The food is to die for from great breakfasts to delicious burgers and homemade cakes. The staff are so friendly and our grandchildren and dog love the place. Thanks Gemma and please thank all your staff. Regards Steve Lesley and Grandchildren and Copper the dog.

Super dog friendly cafe just outside Dalbeattie. Sat outside in the garden in the warm sunshine with chickens walking around in the enclosure beside us. Simply great! Had scones and paninis all delicious. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. Our dog enjoyed lots of treats too. Definitely worth stopping off here if doing a coastal tour!

This is a very lovely cafe near Dalbeattie. We visited whilst staying in Kippford. We had coconut and cherry scones, lovely coffee and some tomato and basil soup. The cafe garden is lovely, very colourful. There are chickens and ducks running about freely, very nice to see. The cafe is very dog friendly too. Parking on site. You can also purchase freshly laid eggs and homemade jams. Staff are very friendly, hipimg to visit again sometime in the future.

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
