"We have visited the Wheel many times before and therefore have a good idea of the experience we can expect. We recently visited with friends to catch-up and arrived circa so not late by evening dinning standards. Wine and beer was swiftly ordered and...served to the table with a smile from the waitress. of the party of went with starters, they we served quickly and very scrummy. Not too long after the mains were bought out, pasta dishes and one fish dish. Pasta dishes were all cooked to perfection however the fish dish was below par. The rissoto it was served on was dry and looked like it had been loitering in the kitchen waiting for the fish to decide to leap out of the pan or due to the size of the piece of fish the chef was having difficulty catching it in the pan. What ever the reason was it was not a pleasant, enjoyable plate of food. Conversation flowed and by now it was close to before we ordered desserts, we all had something different and to be honest the only dish that received praise was the Eatonmess, the other three dishes we not what I would expect, especially considering the price charged the Bakewell tart had obviously been heated so much the base was like concrete and the jam like sticky glue, the sticky toffee pudding certainly need more toffee flavor and the crumble lacked flavour, was very wet and left under the grill too long so was just starting to catch and burn. Not the best experience, the Chef and the management need to get back to ensuring the attention to detail is carried throughout the meal from start to finish, with all elements being served with love and care!"

"I visited The Cowshed with my fiancé on a Saturday night out. She had heard good things but I’d never heard of the restaurant before.Arrival was interesting as it is down a narrow country lane and the entrance sign is hidden if coming from the Wolverhampton direction but we found it eventually.The car park isn’t very well lit or surfaced which in the wind, rain and my partner wearing heels wasn’t the best.Once inside it’s very welcoming, the staff were lovely and wanted to make sure everything was excellent for our visit. Unfortunately after us having one round of drinks they never checked for any more. We also found as the night got busier the smaller room we were in was really a corridor down to the busier back room with a flurry of people coming through somewhat ruining the atmosphere.The menu is quite limited but we both found something to eat without issue. The starters and mains were lovely, the hand cut chips and steak especially. The desserts seemed a little lacking, almost mass produced in comparison which was a shame.Overall for a smaller independent restaurant its’s a nice place to eat but needs a little more polish to be really good."

"I arrived yesterday for lunch and ordered a large glass of Merlot and a half of Diet Coke. I was charged on my switch card £14.45. When I questioned the price I was told I’d been charged for Malbec and not Merlot. I was given a refund in “Cash” I have never had any refund on any purchase return to me in coins when it’s been paid on a card!!!!! Quite wrong. I ordered the loin of Lamb with dauphinois potatoes. The meal was not served with dauphinois potatoes but pave potatoes. I questioned the potatoes and the waitress told me that they were definitely dauphinois. Sorry I am a foodie, I know my potatoes and they were definitely not dauphinois. The other members of the party remarked that the vegetables were undercooked and inedible. The lamb was tough and the whole course extremely poor. The waitress offered me an alternative but I declined."

"I went out for a birthday dinner with friends, and I must say, the staff were exceptional; they went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. "We have been to the Old Vicarage many times over the years the people who own it have been there a long time now although the staff seem to change regularly. For a 3 course Sunday lunch in a lovely place like this the price is good the beef was of excellent quality and very tender, plenty of veg to go with the meals too although I did find everything a tad on the cool side I like piping hot food if it is being bought a distance from the kitchen! However, it has to be said that they are very good at adapting the food to help our gluten free friend who does struggle at some places the chef here is always able to adapt the food to suit. The Orangery is lovely and bright and warm on a winters day but lacking in ambience and atmosphere when there are only a few diners needs some background music! That said, it will not put us off going again, it is a lovely place with lovely people Sarah the owner and her husband are very nice and always have time for you however busy they are."
