"Have been to many cafes and restaurants since lockdown rules were lifted, and am well mindful of keeping to social distancing rules. So, when I am stood outside on the road looking in and the cafe person is inside behind a table and a queue of people in between it felt like social distancing is being used as an excuse to justify rudeness. After that unpleasantness, I couldn’t be bothered to spend another minute nearby, much less buy anything. Plenty of other friendly places in the town with good coffees and teas."

"Bruce’s tasting menu was the highlight of our 10 day gastronomic tour of Devon and Cornwall. For someone who claims never to have visited Japan, his kaiseki menu would do even Endo proud. His interpretation of chawanmushi was sublime with a fresh and crunchy shitake and caviar. Superb fish fresh from the quay and the locally grown vegetables were delicious. Even the shiso tasted like shiso tastes in Japan, a remarkable achievement given that shiso in UK is generally bland and disappointing. Three things to bear in mind: 1) try to show up at 6.45pm to get the best tables. Dinner starts promptly at 7pm. 2) don’t expect any meat. 3) Bruce leaves the kitchen between every other course to describe the following two courses. His account of where he sourced the ingredients and how he prepared them is truly fascinating. Finally, a meal at the Shore is not only a true feast for all your senses but also incredibly good value. "great small place for an evening meal. the staff was friendly and saw us quickly. there is a quite small menu, but what they taste amazing! we had the drawn black and jalapeño Scotch egg as well as the philly cheese steak taxioto for starter and the california fish and chips and swarms with mac and triple cheese for netzen, all tasted amazing. they also have a good selection of cocktails and everything is really good cheap! would go back!"

"This truly is an amazing place the food is of exceptional quality we return week after week the fish finger bun is simply the best the soup with a chunk of bread is always of a fantastic variety not found elsewhere And to finish it off try their coffee cake or homemade florentine in dark chocolate Great coffee also If we arrive before 11.30 we go for the breakfast poached eggs on avocado this is often copied in many places but never beaten and full English which is quality Outside seating area is fantastic with sun parasols provided and even soft padded cushions if you are down that way DO NOT WALK ON BY you will not be disappointed"

"Just let down a bit by floor staff. Decent quality food with slightly above average price, (no complaints but staff were questionable minor, fixable gripes: Young female waiter wearing socks and sliders? Could have been a forgotten uniform but just looked unprofessional in situ. Saw another female waiter marrying two bottles of rosé wine before taking a new ‘full’ bottle of wine to a customer. Don’t think it’s illegal in the Uk to do this but unhygienic and poor form. They took it to an upstairs table after doing in on the ground floor so diners obviously non the wiser. Young male staff member checked in on us 6 times (counted over two courses, not including ordering or bringing food (how are the drinks x1, how is the food etc x2 per course to the point it was disruptive/ annoying. I get they’re told to be attentive, but just chill buddy"
