"We had a lovely evening at this restaurant. Starters were both very good: risotto with smoked haddock and a side salad. We both ordered mussels in a white wine cream sauce very tasty, mussels INCREDIBLY fresh tender...perhaps redefining our standard for what mussels should taste like! Unfortunately, there was a fair amount of sand in the mussels, slightly impacting my enjoyment of the dish. Portions were very generous. Their artisanal bread was excellent. My husband, who requires gluten free for coeliac, was delighted with his GF bread and the GF chips (impossible to find in the restaurants at home in the States) and the fact that almost the entire menu was GF. We were in the main dining room (as opposed to the tavern)."

Incredible. I made a last-minute reservation on a Saturday night and was not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and worth every penny, despite being on the pricier side. The quality of the food is definitely not something to overlook. Voir le carte

First time at this restaurant and the hotel. Treating a friend for Christmas lunch. Couldn't have chosen a better place. Excellent food and service and the hotel surroundings were gorgeous. Would go there again and most probably will in the New Year with my partner for lunch. Thank you Dawson's for such a great eating experience.

we have already eaten here, and as usual, eating was also good (big portions) and service-friendly and efficient. if they are looking for fresh, well prepared food, this is the place the menu has all the usual with some interesting meals as well. I recommend the smoked haddock risotto one of the best I have eaten. his starter is the size of a head. also the kalbburger was excellent. we're coming back.

We made a reservation at the restaurant, but upon arrival, we were informed that they only accept cash, which was quickly confirmed. I had requested the Sunday roast beef, but was told that it was cancelled due to low demand. I ended up ordering the lamb, which was not good - very fatty and poorly cooked. The staff seemed overwhelmed and everything seemed to be going wrong. However, my partner's cod meal was good. Despite this negative experience, we will still return as we have had good experiences before. It just seemed like a bad day for the restaurant.

I had the vegetarian roast dinner which was lovely and served with a nice amount of vegetables and gravy. Something that you don't see very often as a vegetarian. I'll often have to have a risotto or pasta dish while the rest of the group have their roasts and this fits put me off going out for Sunday dinners. But this made the experience especially good. My husband had the beef which he enjoyed too. Service was great and we had our meals quickly and the plates were nice and hot. We both had a desert too. I would highly recommend the lemon possett. Will definitely be coming back soon.

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
