"We visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch with high hopes given the beautiful setting of the hotel. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the poor service and lackluster food. Although the staff were not rude, they were slow and inattentive. We waited 15 minutes for a waiter to take our drinks order in a not-so-busy restaurant, and we felt ignored throughout the meal. A service charge was added to our bill despite the lack of attentive service. The food did not meet our expectations either. The bread was store-bought and not even warmed, which was surprising for a country hotel. The starters were decent, but the main course was a letdown. The beef was overcooked and dry, the vegetables were bland, and the roast potatoes lacked crispiness. The only saving grace was the tasty gravy. We decided to skip dessert due to our disappointing experience. It is a shame because the venue itself is charming, but we do not plan on returning after this underwhelming visit."

Setting, layout and atmosphere all consistently good. The choice was good, including vegetarian options, the quality and service very good.

Came along with my mum for afternoon tea. The tea was first class with an excellent variety of Christmas themed sandwiches and cakes. The beautiful Christmas tree in the lounge also added to our experience. Thankyou

Went in for a few drinks. The barman was rude and barked “what do you want” at us. He didn’t know what the sparkling wine I asked for was. He then proceeded to ask if we were paying cash and card etc and not really...

The setting at Headlam is lovely and it is only let down by the quality of the Sunday lunch and the finer touches/training of the staff. We were not eating late, and asked for our Beef to be pink. What came out looked like an...

Very disappointing. Although having booked, we were made to feel unwelcome, in fact, a hindrance. One member of staff was particularly unhelpful, and after ordering a bottle of prosecco, we were left to pour it ourselves. Sadly, we wouldn’t recommend.

Afternoon tea for 4. An expensive outing but one that was enjoyable because of the company and regardless of the disappointing experience. The afternoon tea would have been brilliant for two but for 4, there just wasn't enough. Especially at £80! The lady on the...

We had a wonderful afternoon at Headlam for our ladies' lunch. I savored one of the best pieces of fish I've ever tasted - full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The vegetables were also delicious and the room was stylish and comfortable. The service was top-notch and the overall experience was relaxing. The quality of the food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Thank you Headlam for upholding such high standards of hospitality. My friends and I felt very well taken care of, making it a truly memorable day.

We stayed at Headlam for a week with friends and so are almost everything from the menu. I was very happy with every dish I had. Most of the time we shared a dessert as the portions are quite large. The quality of ingredients is high and presentation is excellent. We tried a number of wines by the glass which were very nice quality and sensibly priced. They have a separate vegetarian menu which we also dipped into. One of our friends who is a strict vegetarian pointed out the lack of protein in the dishes and hopefully this will be taken on board. The restaurant is formal with attentive service though you can eat the same food in the more relaxed environment of the bar.

"Started off really well and went over to the counter and ordered a crepe with banana and Nutella and specifically stated no strawberries I also asked for a San Pelegríno still water as this was on the menu also. I was the first person to order and the last to eat in the end. I got brought my water over which was a cheaper brand water that I just paid £2 for what would I have liked to have seen ? We’ll when I asked for san pelligrino still water to be told that they don’t have that in. Finally my crepe comes and I take a bite and realise that it’s got strawberries in all the way through which I’m allergic too. One of my family members takes it back and says that I asked for banana not strawberry there’s a reason why I can’t eat it and didn’t want it on my crepe. Then 5 minutes later another crepe comes out that was my bitten crepe that someone had opened up and picked the strawberries out and put banana in. Disgusting absolutely … not sure if this was a mistake or just being stingy either way it’s not on. It then again gets returned because there is no way I am eating that and it gets explained once again there is a reason I can’t eat strawberries to which then one of the owners comes over to serve the correct crepe and apologise . I really hope a lesson was learnt today because cross contamination is not a joke. Please be careful when eating there. I didn’t get offered a refund but then again they were willing to serve me a bitten crepe again so it didn’t surprise me that much."
