"After reading numerous positive reviews, I decided to give this local restaurant a try. Unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. Despite the lack of customers when we arrived on a quiet Saturday afternoon, the staff seemed distracted and took a long time to serve us. They even got the order wrong at the table next to us. Disappointingly, they were out of avocados for the avocado smash dish I had my eye on, as well as ice cream for a milkshake. I settled for a tuna toastie, which was dry and lacking in flavor, with overly toasted bread and minimal mayo. The only saving grace was the red onion chutney. The green tea I ordered did not meet expectations either. Despite my partner enjoying his poached eggs on toast, the overall experience did not justify the high cost. The lackluster food and service do not align with the restaurant's reputation."

Simply epic. We simply love it. Try the avocado smash. Service is lovely as well: simple and homely.

Good range of lunch options. All we have tried have been good. Reasonable price. Parking outside or in the car park opposite.

Excellent, very friendly service, lovely cakes and drinks, everything was clean and accessible. Couldn’t fault it and highly recommend it.

I ordered the smashed avocado and my husband got the big breakfast. The food was excellent, the staff was very friendly, and we can't wait to come back for another visit after our Sunday morning walk. Voir le carte

Found this cafe by chance because the pub next door was closed. Their loss. Having frozen at the Ardingly Antiques Fair, here we had homemade butternut squash soup and bacon/Brie toasties. All was hot and delicious. What a great find.

Lived in Ardingly for 29 years and never visited the cafe until today. Me and my partner visited for brunch, had “The Big One” and breakfast wrap, chai latte and latte. The he food was delicious and the two girls running the cafe were very friendly and sociable. Definitely recommend

Such a lovely surprise! We had tried two nearby pubs, both closed for renovations. Came upon the Café the food was absolutely delicious, totally made to order. My poached egg was even cooked twice by the chef/owner as she was unhappy with the state of the first attempt! Great baked items for desert, wonderful coffee. We will definitely visit again. My group of 7 hikers visited this restaurant for lunch. We called ahead to let them know we were coming and were pleased to see that the tables had been rearranged to fit us all. This warm welcome was a nice surprise, and we were highly impressed with how delicious and beautifully presented the food was. It exceeded our expectations and we felt very welcomed by the staff.

Visited here on a recommendation, but it was our unlucky day. Very busy on arrival so we were prepared for a wait. Once we paid though we just seemed to be overlooked. Half hour wait for our hot drinks, a further 15 mins or so for our meals. The tea was horrible and tasted of lemons, and the full English breakfast had raw tomatoes with it. Played spot the mushroom as thought they might be hiding, but no, only a few slivers. We were promised toast was on the way, but despite me having to remind them, it still hadn’t arrived before we’d finished. Very disappointing.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
