"Headed over to my families local as had seen it advertised on local forums and checked out their own social media accounts, looked promising. First time I've visited them since they moved to the area. My family stated it's a pub with false hope and that no one with an ounce of taste uses it. But its new years eve and pubs should be supported, especially your local! I stated. Upon entering the place it was only full in the small carpeted area in front of the dj booth and the place was filthy, There was a group of women stood at rhe bar who's language was just atrocious and vulgar with a few men joining in for extra volume and profanities. From what I could hear they'd been sent away from another pub. I am not surprised. I wouldn't want them in my premises either. Teenagers drunk and when I went to use the filthy toilet facilities there was one of the teenagers urinating with the door open because of how intoxicated she was. We left. It wasn't late so our evening could be saved. I felt like a fool and my family had warned me but I tried to support the place. Poor management who just let any old rif raf in to fill the tills but unfortunately these customers keep out the ones you truly want in your pub and the false hope of food being served doesn't help its case. I've never thought it good business practice to talk down another business to make yours busier but the man behind the bar took great pleasure in it, it just added to more unpleasant feelings in what could be a truly lovely village pub. Such a shame."

"Very impressed since the reopening. The new owners are clearly trying to tidy up whilst still Keeping the village pub feel. Rang to book, friendly service, we could even bring the dog . On arrival, warm greeting and promptly seated, menus and drinks sorted. Food was top notch, good portions and all home made. The cheese board had a fantastic selection, we all had a good pick at it. Other meals around us looked fantastic too, enough reason to return alone. My only quibble was how the owner was addressing the young waitresses. Although slightly inexperienced, they were helpful, friendly and doing a great job. I’d ordered the starter size mussels from the special board with a portion of chips as a main. The lovely young waitress had checked this was ok with the chef, no problem. The owner then gave the waitress a dressing down in front of the whole bar that there wasn’t a main portion left. As this was loud enough for me to hear sitting down, I explained it was myself and that I am happy with a smaller portion with chips and that the waitress had spoken to the kitchen. The owner then continued to say that you never know what these young girls put on the order and that the one not working whilst we was there was even worse! Please have more faith in the young people working for you, we all had to learn once and they are doing a great job. Well done to the young waitress biting her tongue after being spoken to so rudely in front of so many customers!"

"After hearing many good reports me and my family decided to visit upton fish and chips on the 21/7/2023. After arriving at 5.30pm there was already a substantial queue from I could see, luckily I found a space on the roadside. Me and my mother joined the queue, there was about 10 people in front of us, I was only too grateful that the weather was nice, I wouldn’t have fancied queuing in bad weather, we gradually got nearer to the front of the queue, after about 35 mins we had made it to the front, but then just had to wait an extra 10 minutes as the regular size fish wasn’t quite cooked, the smells were making me hungry, the chip shop itself is only big enough for two people it was quaint and quirky very retro looking, the staff that served us were pleasant we ordered the regular fish &chips a mushy peas and a curry sauce we paid and left to eat the long for fish and chips in the car I have to say they were lovely, everyone agreed, so worth the 45 minute wait, the only think that stopped me giving 5/5 was the curry sauce, I’m so glad I didn’t pour it over my meal or it would have really ruined it for me I know it was hand made to their recipe, but it wasn’t what I expected by any means it was so HOT, it wasn’t the nice chip shop curry I was expecting, it was really hot like an Indian curry, my mouth was tingling the other members of the family tried it and they all said it was too hot and overpowering, I definitely wouldn’t buy the curry sauce again, other than that the fish was battered nicely, it was crisp and the chips were new potatoes I’m pleased to say I’ve tried them, and would definitely go again"
