"From arrival to departure, the attention to our comfort and enjoyment was unstinting. Friendly barman, who made excellent cocktails and very welcoming Maitre D ' who oversaw the food service (and knew everything about the dishes 8 course tasting menu, veggie and non veggie). A panoply of tastes, textures and beautifully presented dishes unfolded, each building on, and contrasting beautifully with its predecessor. Flavours abounded and surprised the palate at each turn, yet everything tasted 'as it should '. My highlight was the red mullet in a 'nage ' of rhubarb and lovage oil, yet nothing could be faulted. A visit by the sous chef who toasted marshmallow lollipops at the table and served a variety of chocolate fancies capped the dining experience. As did the fine port which the Maitre D ' proposed to end the evening. Wonderful."

"This is a cute little cafe with lovely staff but the prices are reasonably high and I agree with previous reviewer the breakfast is not freshly cooked. Sausage was very browned from sitting in heat too long , bacon was dry and hard, homemade baked beans were mush in a small container and mushrooms withered . Eggs were obviously freshly cooked but on one piece of over toasted bread. Not very enjoyable. I think if you are going to charge over £16 for this plate of food and a cup of tea it needs to be much much better. Won't be returning for this reason. For this price there are too many other options with better standards."

"We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant with great, friendly service. The staff even brought a dog bed and water dish to our table, which we and our pooch appreciated. The menu had a lot of variety and the food was delicious (the loaded pommes were a must-try). The prices were reasonable and it was evident that the restaurant tries to cater to everyone. The restaurant is run by a husband-wife duo, with the husband as the chef and the wife managing the front of the house. They do a fantastic job. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in the Cirencester area. Thank you!"

"Firstly, I want to give a massive thank you to the staff at Smiths for being so patient as we both had intolerances that we had to take into consideration when ordering food. I unfortunately didn't get names of the staff but there were two in particular that were very friendly and understanding. The one blonde lady went out of her way to make a list of each item we couldn't have (I couldn't have gluten, there was also a dairy intolerance) to ease the decision of ordering food. I have never experienced such fantastic service in a restaurant!! The food was to die for, so incredibly tasty and fresh! Unfortunately we had eyes bigger than our stomach and didn't eat it all but the food was worth every penny. I highly recommend Smiths for some amazing grub when visiting Boughton On The Water! Dietary restrictions: A dairy and gluten intolerance that they were more than happy to help with"

"A lovely pub and outside areas, however service and food was a massive let down. Went for Sunday lunch, had a drink first In the garden and the arrived at 1.30 to be seated, got given menus only to be told there was no beef and only pork available or the steak. At 1.30!? Most of us chose the pork, was left waiting for ages so had to get someone's attention to order, seemed to be only 3 people running the bar and the restaurant, asked for tap water which was forgotten, tried to get someone's attention to order drinks but we had been left half an hour now so I went up to order. Pork when it came was so thickly cut it was chewy and grey. No roast potato's given on one of the plates, gravy was like water. No flavour to anything except the cauli cheese which was nice. Table behind us also complained. Most of our plates were left full so we explained and manager came over and offered 50%off bill which was good service in the end. A real shame as saw the reviews were good but definitely would not return."

"I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. I had lunch there with a friend today. Despite the rainy weather, we had a great view of the lake. The restaurant had a simple, modern design that I found to be clean and pleasant. We ordered the Caesar chicken salad, which was generously portioned with a lot of chicken. We also shared a serving of squid, which was also quite large. The food was tasty and satisfying, especially considering the reasonable price (14.5 for the large salad bowl). The service was quick, but it's worth noting that we were the only customers along with a lady, so it may be different when the restaurant is busier."

"What a great spot for a typical English pub meal. All the usual offerings done outstandingly. Nicest pie I've ever had (and I'm a great pie fan), went again a second night it was so good and ordered the fish and chips, another classic. Wonderful crisp batter but not oily crisp, fluffy chips. Clearly they have a great kitchen. Pie had this amazing side of greens which seemed to be a combo of kale, cavalo nero and beans or snap peas done in a light butter, just delicious! Good staff, efficient and professional but also casual and chatty. Great atmosphere too, without the (oft off-putting) ubiquitous TV showing footy or loud music."

"The General Manager (Silviu) was very welcoming having known him from his previous position we know he delivers great service! The food was delicious; the range and quality of the dishes all delivered great flavour. "On the surface, this restaurant looks like it should deliver. The service was slow, despite there being 3 members of staff, front of house, and 7 covers. The 3 members of staff spent the majority of their time by the entrance, away from the main restaurant. I finally had my order taken and asked for a beer and a jug of tap water. The beer arrived, but no water! The food was placed in front of me, without a word. No offer of any dressing or if I needed anything else. Throughout my meal, I didn't see a member of staff until my starter was finished. It was collected, without a word. No engagement at all! My main came a pizza). It was placed in front of my, again, without a word, and the staff member went back to join the others who were out of sight. Again, my finished main was collected, without a word...Nothing! 10 minutes later, I had a desert menu placed on my table, I think the members of staff may be mutes! My desert menu was collected and she spoke!!! I declined the offer of desert as I really wasn't impressed with the service. Writing this, I can hear the girls chatting out of sight) so they can hold a conversation. I know this country is struggling for hospitality staff, but in what could be a very good restaurant, I expected more. The starter was good. The pizza was average just lacked flavour). I wish I'd stuck with my original plan and gone to the Tapas bar, along the road..."

"I stayed in one of the rooms in the courtyard for £90pn. My room was in a poor condition, had visible damp and was really dirty. Although the beds were made the room was not fit for use in its current state. There was visible damp and decay in the bathroom, a lot of dead bugs and thick dust on every surface and the room was full of dead and living spiders. It just hadn’t been cleaned adequately in a very long time. The furniture and pillows were heavily used, visibly stained and quite frankly in need of replacing. The walls were lined with squashed dead bugs and the old television also did not work at all. The whole room was in a general state of disrepair and definitely not worth the money. I did ask to speak to a manager but when approached the desk staff were completely disinterested and failed to follow up my request to make contact to discuss the situation further. Rooms: 1"

"I had been in this pub for a while, but my family and I were on the way from cheltenham to Westonbirt at 17 o'clock and called for an early dinner. all four of us said that the meal was faultless, we enjoyed all three courses and cannot praise this place enough. such a great atmosphere, cordial greeting from the incredibly fabulous staff and a seat directly at the log tariff. what more can they demand. it is easy to find, beautiful location and has plenty of parking right next to the pub. in summer there is a large garden back. in februar this is the place to eat when they go to visit the colesbourne snowdrop gardens that are right in front of the house and not to miss. the menu at the colesbourne inn is huge and offers for everyone something wonderful, regardless of their taste or nutrition to choose. my calamari ‘Bar Bite’ size starter was superb and definitiw a greater part than we expected. the other appetizers, a black bell and black pudding with fried egg was superb as well as the bread selection we also ordered. mostly fish Pie....only full of a lot of different fish and whistle fish. my son had the steak and ale pier he claimed he was the best he had eaten in a very long time. two of us had the nut roast dinner.... I want my Christmas dinner to be as good as that. desserts of fruit crumbs and custard finished the meal with the obligatory glass or two of fizz. for each device in these times to offer this incredible selection of oriented, which is an absolute credit for them by the most kind of employees ever and the very high standards they did. highly recommended at any level possible. well made the colesbourne inn"

"What better way to be introduced to UK hospitality. Trouble House was brilliant. Jackie, our host went out of her way to ensure our stay was perfect. It is a fabulous place to explore the beauty of the Cotswolds as well as experience some of the incredible history of the area. Regrettably, I was not feeling 100% so did not have an opportunity to experience the breakfast and dining options. My son however was certainly in the mood to appreciate the menu options that were available and could not fault the hospitality provided. Thank you so much Jackie for your outstanding consideration while I was not feeling 100%. The breakfasts were out of this world as was dinner (according to my son who was travelling with me). Cannot recommend Trouble House more highly and would without question return. Thanks again Jackie."

The man who warmly greeted us with a big smile and served our food was also very welcoming. The food was delicious and served promptly despite the busy evening. "Gorgeous immaculately clean and attractively decorated pub with a pretty walled garden in the middle of a lovely village off the beaten track but just over half hour from centre of Bristol. We were looking for somewhere to have lunch after a circular walk taking...in the bluebell woods and the furthest stretches of Westonbirt. Happily they were open on Bank Holiday Monday and we really enjoyed our assorted burgers and falafels and perfectly cooked trout fillet on nicoise salad. Mandy and Becky and the team are putting heart soul into this place and it felt very welcoming. Some of the party got delayed due to the whacky races and the chef kept the food warm for them. Thanks again!"
