"Arrived this morning on the Liverpool Ferry in search of the perfect Ulster Fry something we had been looking forward to for months. With the ferry docking at 6am we reviewed places that would be open before 9am. We chose to visit an iconic Cafe that has been around for years and the website said it would open at 8.30am. We parked near by and with the anticipation building we entered the Cafe at 8.35 having watched the staff set up tables outside. The initial look from the staff member should have caused alarm bells to ring. The expression said 'What are you doing in this early, we aren 't ready. We picked up breakfast menus from the counter and sat down only to discover the internal tables were soaking wet where outside tables had been stored on top of them. I picked up some napkins and dried the table. I choose the large Fry and my wife had the slightly smaller Ulster Fry, we also ordered two teas, after about 20 minutes the waitress came over and said they were just waiting for the kitchen equipment to warm up and they would get the breakfasts to us as soon as they were ready. At about 9.10 they arrived and two small cups of tea with a splash of milk followed. The first thing was that the bacon was pail and very undercooked, I feel a good vet could have revived it. The sausages on the other hand had been deep fried and looked like they were reheated. The soda and potato bread were cool and greasy. The egg was nice with a lovely dark yellow yoke. The sausage was cheap yet the Cafe is next door to an Award winning butchers. My wife sent her meal back and politely asked for the bacon to be cooked more. What a disappointment! We finished up and I went to use the loo before we set of for Bushmills but alas No Loos. Would we return? Not likely, would we recommend? Definitely NOT!"

"Called in for lunch , wet from the rain and rather hungry. We were seated immediately and order was taken really swiftly. It was lunch hour and business was steady enough so we didn't expect the food within five minutes but after noticing tables that had only sat down five and ten minutes previously being served their food before us, and after my son was laying his head on the table in sheer boredom, I began to question how long we had been waiting. I had taken a photo of my son at the table after ordering and when I checked the time stamp on the photo, it had been taken thirty minutes beforehand. I approached the counter where a few servers were standing and explained the wait we were experiencing, reiterated the food I had ordered and sat back down after the girl assured me she would look into it. As I glanced back toward the counter I noticed a few glares from the staff, in particular the red haired young girl who on previous visits I had always found to be quite pleasant. I found this level of open disdain towards a customer quite unprofessional, especially when that customer's complaint was perfectly within reason. When the food arrived, I had been given the wrong Panini which was quickly rectified by the owner. Working in a restaurant with over fifty tables, I do understand that mistakes can be made but I was incredulous at the fact that not one member of staff had the initiative or basic common sense to notice that the table directly within eyesight of the counter they were all standing behind had been sitting waiting, with dead drinks for over half an hour. When the food eventually arrived , it was lovely and the chips were perfectly crisp and hot. The food and the reaction of the owner kept this review from being a one star. The owner came across as a nice , understanding man who seemed very apologetic and genuinely embarrassed by the incompetence of his staff however the dirty looks from the counter staff wouldn't have me rushing back."

"I remembered visiting Mufflers Restaurant one Saturday afternoon when I was exploring this area of County Down with my sister; so having spent a couple of hours browsing inside the Crafty Fox I suggested my husband and I took some time out before moving on.It was a good move. There is an abundance of car parking space to the rear of the Spar shop but until today I didn’t realise that the coffee shop, hardware store and the general store were all linked together. I think during my last visit I must have gained access to Mufflers Restaurant directly via a door into the conservatory? These doors didn’t look open when we arrived so we walked into what appeared to be a hardware store and continued on through hoping to locate the restaurant. We stopped when we reached the grocery store at the front road side having passed through a farm shop area where there were bakery products on sale e.g fresh soda bread, fruit loaf and other equally yummy pastries and cakes. The grocery store offered all sorts of fresh fruit vegetables, dried goods, magazines newspapers along with all other usual items one would expect to find in a local store. But where had the restaurant gone?I hadn’t spotted a door to the right just before the bread buns counter, but thankfully my husband took the lead... and sure enough once through the door the pay counter of the restaurant could be seen straight ahead.Due to the time and the fact that we had missed lunch I took an unusual interest in all on display. Finally hubby chose a scone and coffee the pleasant the waitress offered to heat the scone slightly and told us she would bring it to us when it was ready. It’s unusual unusual for me to to have something sweet when I crave an afternoon coffee but I just had to give in this time. If there are any readers out there with a real passion for tinned cherry pie filling I’m sure they will understand!!! A slightly heated slice with a black coffee were my selection, and having ordered we went through to the conservatory to select a table. The inner part of the restaurant appears to be set out with various nooks and crannies which felt a little claustrophobic for me, but these areas would serve a family or small work groups well. There was only one other party In the conservatory area when we arrived it appeared to be a pre Christmas family get together.... gran, grandpa, mum, dad, daughter (approx. 6 years old), and baby brother who was toddling around (possibly 3 years). The comfortable sofa’s, coffee table and chairs suited the group perfectly we sat at a table for 2 at the opposite end of the rectangular shaped area.I was interested in the paintings drawings displayed around the walls and took time to wander to see them (prices rangefrom £50 £360) and the variety of topics was appreciated. Our beverages snacks were served to us within 5 minutes and we happily tucked in. The cherry was delicious (as expected) and fresh cream was certainly a worthy accompaniment Regretfully the pastry of the tart was so very thin that it couldn’t be tasted (or crunched). Hubby enjoyed his scone and I enjoyed a quick catch up on local N. Ireland news as I read one of a selection of complimentary news papers. The family has left and another couple of ladies had joined us.The cafe was due to close at 5pm, and whilst the girls replaced glasses etc. on the shelves. There were crayons and colouring in available for children, so all in all Mufflers appears to welcome customers of all ages.Sorry I can’t say much more about the food as we didn’t partake! The cleanliness of the restaurant was acceptable throughout and the tables had all been cleared at the time of our visit."
