"After reading so many polarizing reviews I was hesitating to visit this place, but in the end it was one of the few available sushi options open on Monday evening. The positive side is clearly the food. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fish offered and the freshness of the sashimi. Some of the nigiris were not perfect (rice-wise), but the quality of the fish compensated. I went for a classic course and did not get any "fusion" options (like California or similar) and actually I must say that I was quite pleased. Another positive thing was the service as the stuff tried to be friendly and caring. Of course it was a bit "impersonal" and weird that they were too attentive, but it did not bother me.The major disadvantage is the location. It is situated in the center of the city, but on the 4th floor of a shopping mall. The whole 4th floor is like a food court and even though Yoshi tries to offer a sort of a proper ambiance I still felt as if the place was too noisy and with too many people. In conclusion, the place is certainly fine when it comes to food quality. It does not have the perfect atmosphere and it is a bit pricey for being in a mall, but I would not mind visiting again."

We had a menu here in the evening. The food was outstanding, of course the dishes are small so if you are very hungry maybe not the best place but for fine dining yes.

Wanted to try this restaurant because it is located on the 5th floor of Alsterhaus department store. The food is great, have a good optiona for lunch. A must go in Hamburg.

Confortable and nice japanese restaurant in Central Hamburg. DON'T MISS the outdoor terrace for dinner in summertime. The food is high quality and service really good at medium-high prices.

I joined some friends at Yoshi - my first time. The sushi was outstanding. Spicy tuna and cucumber - crisp and nice sesame seed accent. The tempura dinner set was also very nice. Crisp tempura of prawns, mushrooms, lotus stem and vegetables. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Voir le carte

Hardly any guests here when I was there, no atmposphere at all. The quality of the food is mediocre unfortunately. It seems that they are not very motivated here which I can understand if they have so few guests for dinner. Tricky to find the entrance after the Alsterhaus has closed.

If you a looking for great Japanese food beyond Sushi and Sashimi this is your place to go. We can definitely recommend it also for their fabulous hosts that went out of their way to help us to a great dinner. They even packed our food when we had to leave due to a family emergency. Priceless!

Lunch at Yoshi proved to be perfect.all very authentic and a good variety of choices .Meals, menus and sushi in abundance and a very good selection of sake.I recommend the sample of 3 varieties -that will carry you nicely through the meal.Quiet and pleasant athmosphere-quite a contrast to the bustling department store outside Voir le carte

Went shopping during my lunch break in Alsterhaus and decided to try something different the the usual steak, so we opted for sushi. Quality good. Fresh fish and rolls prepared at the moment.Service quality normal, nothing outstanding but ok. Only remark is the price. A bit overpriced. We spent, the two of us 90 euros and we had water, shake 2 glasses of prosecco and a dish each. One variation of rolls (6 in total plus veggies) and a noodle soup. I know is Halsterhaus but.... a bit too much.

I was really looking forward to eating here Monday evening. I was introducing my German friend to his first Japanese meal. I carefully chose the right items for a tasty balanced meal, and even wrote them down, to make sure nothing forgotten. We waited, and waited and might still be waiting, Nobody came to take our order. I called out to the waitress serving at a nearby table, but no response. After 15 minutes we got up and left. We spoke politely to the manageress ( I assume) to tell het why we were leaving. She was not in the slightest interested or bothered. So we went to Franziskaner on Grosse Theaterstr 9.... and had super service, super food, and a most enjoyable evening.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
