"When I called to book, I was offered two time slots for dinner and took the 6:30pm one (I'm glad we didn't take the later one! . When we arrived, the bar and dining room had a fair number of customers, but there were plenty of spare tables. There was a bit of a wait to be seated in the restaurant and I got the impression the staff were struggling to cope with the limited number of customers. After being seated in the restaurant, we weren't kept waiting too long to order our meals (2 . We didn't order any starters, but we had to wait over an our for our food to be served. A family of four seated on a nearby table had arrived before us and their main course didn't arrive until we'd nearly finished our meals. I have no complaints about the quality of food, I order gammon, which was tasty, not too salty and cooked just right. Having waited so long for our main course, we thought twice about ordering dessert, but took a gamble we wouldn't have to wait quite as long. The desserts arrived reasonably quickly and were very nice. We did receive a verbal apology for the slow service, but at no time did any member of the staff ask if the food was to our liking. The staff were quite pleasant though. Even though we didn't order starters, I don't consider a wait of over an hour to serve a main course is acceptable, and waiting staff should always ask if the food is to the customer's liking. The average rating is a reflection of the poor service and not the quality of food. Had the service been better we would probably have returned for a second meal."

Arrived at the Gilet arms for a VW family weekend, where we were met with a very warm welcome. The views from the campsite are wonderful. The pub itself is lovely with staff to match. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed one night, in a motorhome, very expensive for a pitch, grass needs cutting, toilets not clean and water in taps is brown , wouldn't like to shower or clean my teeth there. Had a shandy from the bar, very expensive and mostly lemonade. Felt very ripped off.

Stayed one night in motorhome, very expensive for a pitch and we had a shandy each from the bar and it was more lemonade than beer. Feel very ripped off. Toilets weren't clean and the water must have come from river as it came out of taps a brown colour. Wouldn't want to clean my teeth in that.

The Y Giler Arms is located in a picturesque area of Wales, but what truly sets it apart as a 5-star establishment is the exceptional service provided by the staff. They are incredibly accommodating, flexible, and sincere. My stay was a delightful experience and a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Voir le carte

Attended this amazing place for WVVW campout. I actually stopped in the pub. Was greeted by the lovely Eddie and his amazing family and also some friends of his that was helping out for the weekend. The room was spotless and cosy. Breakfast was very good along with the rest of the food I had. I was that impressed I am coming back later in the year in my camper van to stop on the campsite. Highly recommend .

Had a great long weekend here in a group of eight. Lovely quiet location close to the A5 with a large car park for our motorcycles. This is a fantastic base from which to explore North and Mid Wales. The rooms are clean, well furnished and comfortable with private bathrooms. The welcome was friendly and relaxed. The location is remote so we ate in pub restaurant every morning and night. The menu offers a good selection of quality pub food at reasonable prices. After dinner we made use of the pool room. All in all we were well looked after and had a brilliant time at the Giler Arms. We will definitely base ourselves there again when in North Wales.

We were staying in Glan Big house 9 adults and two children and my sister phoned the pub at 6.10pm on Saturday, asking if they could give us a table for everyone at 6.30pm.Twenty minutes later, we rocked up to find our table ready and Theresa our waitress with a very friendly welcome. Food was absolutely excellent and the décor was really lovely new carpet throughout and very homely. The 6 year old in our party was given colouring pencils and a book to keep her entertained and our food came out quickly. Really glad we ate locally and we couldn 't have been more warmly welcomed if they tried. Special thanks to Theresa who was brilliant from start to finish. Voir le carte

We were staying as a large group locally and decided to try Sunday lunch at Y Giler Arms. We were put on a table near the window with beautiful views and attended to promptly. We had a combination of 2/3 courses (there were around 5/6 starter options and the usual main roast options including a vegetarian dish). The food came out quickly and was lovely. There was plenty of gravy and bowls of vegetables brought out with the main meals. There was a good selection of drinks at the bar (something for everyone). Staff were extremely friendly too. Overall the meal was really tasty and it was incredibly good value- we wouldn’t hesitate to return next time we are in the area!

On sunday 19th May at 8.ooPM Myself and 5 friends had a sit down meal in the restaurant. Main courses were ok, typical pub food. Some of the food looked like it had been heated up in a microwave. I had the custard and apple BlackBerry crumble for pudding, which was not nice. The custard had not been made with milk. It was a watery dull yellow colour and it had been microwaved. The crumble was unfortunately just stodgy. We were the only persons in the restaurant that night. Staff service was very slow and they seemed to have little interest in our table. There was a female member of staff from Wolverhampton who was the most pleasant and took our order. I'm sorry that I don't know her name but...

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
