"Friendly and welcoming and pleasant enough room for a one night stopover in a very pretty and bustling village. Whilst the bar and restaurant areas are attractive, the evening special of chalk stream trout was spoilt by an overgenerous amount of kale and quite strong...and thick sauce. The pizza was fine. Breakfast choice of kippers and poached eggs for both of us was an adventure- whilst my eggs were soft, my wife's were hard and my kipper was incinerated and shouldn't have been served ! Service was ok and friendly enough although going through the motions and a bit autopilot. Service of warm sauvignon blanc was not really acceptable but apart from adding ice , no alternative was suggested......"

We stopped by here on our way and after our holiday in Cornwall and can honestly say that, during both occasions, we had the best food ever. Rob was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely come back.

Had a lovely lunch with friends. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Sadly a glass of red wine was Was appalled at being charged this amount, without being warned before hand. I understand wines vary in price....but felt this was beyond the pail.

Exceptional roast dinner!!! The venison and wild mushroom starters are devine!! Great wine selection too... Well worth the money. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We are here for a long weekend and when we come back we will definitely be coming here again!!

Birthday dinner (midday meal) restaurant was nice and warm, which was nice as the weather outside was very cold. Staff friendly. The menu said that there was a DISCRETIONARY service charge, but when the bill came the service was already added, so not discretionary...for the guest without embarrassment.

Great building and interior in lovely market. The staff team felt as if they were new. Service was functional. My pizza was tough, one of my guests had a huge plate of Sunday roast without a spark or chlorophyll to be seen on it. for two courses for three people, a pint and a half of beer and no other alcohol the food needed to be a lot better.

eating disappointing. belly pork was not crispy came only with sweet garnish. the gnocchi was so dry that I handed it over to my partner who had a little juice, but only a small kartoffel ball with his booze. home made cracker were so hard and uncritical that we were offered for alternative and fair enough. pannacotta was firm. before pandemic it was ours to place what happened?

that is a great restaurant where you can watch the cook during the work. I had the arancini that were delicious and my wife had some gnocchi also very good. we had both pizzas that were excellent. for dessert I had a salted caramel and...Khocolate dessert that was so good and my wife had the perfect Rhabarb crumb. large wine selection and also a good selection of drinks in the bar. the whole team was so helpful!

disappointed, summarizes our experience. eating was just okay, cocktails okay. I had the plague that should come with a warning as it contained more bones than fish. I bought this to the waiter georges attention, but had little answer. the chips. were the only thing about you. then with a bill that included a service fee was the icing on the cake! will not come back because this is really a sweat! there are too many other better places around that do not calculate for the service that was average to say the least.

"We came to visit here after hearing the new owner was starting to make a bit more effort with his business after a year of being there. We were greeted by fag butts all over the floor, along with a load of rubbish and flower beds full of junk and fag butts. Not the greatest welcome, but we continued. The entrance corridor was dark and half lit by fairy lights on the ceiling. No one was really in the pub, apart from a couple of what I assume to be locals sitting at the bar. The bar area was a mess, with bottles everywhere, dirty glasses (not sure where they came from as the pub was empty). We asked to look at a menu and was handed a folded and ripped bit of paper, which was strewn with spelling and grammar mistakes. The guy behind the bar looked totally at a loss surrounded by mess on his own. The coffee machine was surrounded by dirty napkins and sachets of sugar, with a pint of milk sat out on the side (not in the fridge). The floors don’t seem to have been washed since 2015, and don’t even get me started on the windows. What was once a beautiful beer garden is now covered with tents and tables are stacked in the flower beds. There’s no real sign of life outside apart from the mould that seemed to be growing in the ash trays. The pizza oven is filled with fag butts and rubbish, something I’m sure environmental health would have a field day with. I was also suggested to go upstairs to the ‘pool room’ a room with sticky floors, sticky tables and more strewn rubbish. The pool table barely works without a good kick in told. I popped outside of said pool room to find a stair case leading down to the garden covered in glass and yeah you guessed it fag butts. It’s such a shame that this lovely little pub has been treated with such lack of respect, and it is now so far away from its former glory that its hard to believe it will ever regain it. I will not be coming back."
