"I literally live next door to a sandwich shop in Thornton and I walk 10 minutes out of my way to get sandwiches from Rations bc next door is so awful and because Rations are always sublime. The bread is not only fresh but its wonderfully soft, The Ham is such good quality. The people who run it are always polite and super friendly and nothing is to much trouble. It really is so nice to have somewhere like Rations in the area. After living away from the north west for a while i noticed when i returned that the quality and standard of catering based businesses were alarmingly poor. Rations is a most welcome addition to this little village, we desperately needed a great little sandwich shop! Ps. I also read the singular poor review and clicked on Matthews other reviews, i think he's either the awful baker next door or obviously a product of his environment which is as poor as the review he left. He actually reviewed a kebab shop (dog meat) and Thornton lodge (frozen microwaved everything, i know bc i worked there briefly) and said it was excellent... lol!"

"Have been here a couple of times for a cuppa, but this time we decided to book a table for lunch. There was an excellent range of fish dishes on offer, so my hubby and I had the grilled plaice which was nicely cooked nice to have the option of potatoes and veg accompanying the meal, rather than the ubiquitous chips and peas though these were also an option, should you prefer them (my son opted for these with his scampi). There was also the alternative of having a mixed salad as an accompaniment my mother in law went for this option with her sea bass, and the salad looked really fresh and delicious. We didn’t stay for dessert, but the homemade puddings looked incredible, and portions very generous! It was very busy by 1pm, so I would recommend booking a table if you’re coming for lunch."

"Visited with our two teenage Granchildren on June. The food was wonderful and plentiful. Both the Grandchildren left e chips never known to happen before ! as, in their words, they were stuffed. Between us we had Chicken Breast in a cheesy sauce..., the Black Bull Burger, Fish and Chips and Steak in a Pot. Everything was well cooked, hot and tasty.I was pleased with the price of drinks about half what we would have paid in Manchester. I would really recommend this place and we will probably visit again when we are inthe area."

"We were ready for lunch and came across The Steamer quite by accident, making our way to the markets. We weren’t put off by the outside appearance because of the sign saying homemade food served daily. We made our way in and was greeted by very friendly staff who showed us the restaurant. We viewed the menus and made our choice and the meal was ordered. It came in a reasonable amount of time, for the chef to prepare the breathtaking displays of food, my only wish was I should have taken photos. I had the ham with egg, chips and salad. My cousin had cheese and onion pie with a jacket potato and salad. The food looked very impressive on our plates and most definitely homemade. I don’t think it’s the sea breeze that made it so tasty but it was truly amazing food. We are definitely making plans to go back. I didn’t realise until we got home that it’s Syd Little and his wife’s little gem. We hadn’t seen either of them but the staff they had seeing to us were truly fantastic. Well done to all. I highly recommend this restaurant."
