"I used to love Withies. Quality food, excellent service and staff that really seemed to take pride in their work. This experience was anything but the above. Few people booked on a Friday night (they clearly knew something I didn’t). The service was lack lustre, a feeling that they were delivering the minimum with zero interest in customer experience. I mistakenly ordered the Turkey Christmas Main. It was dry and came with two pigs in blankets and a square of stuffing on the plate. Yes there were additional vegetables in the terrine but I couldn’t quite recover from how sad the plate was. Prices were average, but considering it was supposed to be a treat of an evening out I was bitterly disappointed. Save your money and go somewhere else. I shan’t be returning."

"We had a wonderful dining experience at Passorn Thai Restaurant in Shalford. The restaurant was fully packed when we arrived for our 7:15pm reservation, with every indoor table occupied. Despite the busyness causing a slight delay in food arrival, the delicious meal was worth the wait. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Parking is available on the road leading to the station, in front of the restaurant, or up Chinthurst Lane, just a short walk away. We highly recommend dining in at this restaurant."

"Overpriced. Had this place saved for a while and visited recently whilst walking the dog in the area. Flat white was over £4, no sign of what the beans were they were using, but wasn’t even that nice. Worth noting most roasters or craft cafes are charging between £3.40-3.70 for good quality coffee. My full English although tasty again felt overpriced at £15, and again, no mention of the produce being local or sustainable or anything that would support such a price. Partner had porridge and a banana and that was £6. Say what you like, we’re in our thirties and spent the last 10 years in North London, yet both of us left here feeling marginally ripped off. Won’t go again."

"We booked a meal here for our wedding anniversary and were so pleased that we had! The atmosphere was upbeat, the staff and service exceptional and the food and drink utterly delicious! It was a busy evening but there was no hint of stress from the staff who seemed really happy to be working there and it all ran extremely smoothly. Excellent and interesting choice of food which was cooked and presented to perfection. Next time we are in the area we will most definitely be booking again! Thank you staff at The Star for a wonderful evening."
