"Our first choice restaurant was booked up so we decided to eat here because the menu looked really nice and it was convenient as we were staying at the hotel. It was full and so I was encouraged that it would be good. Some nice warmed bread was brough to the table with some olive oil/balsamic mix. The ration wasn't quite right as each time you dipped the bread you got olive oil and no balsamic. We ordered the wood pigeon breast (special) and baked sardines as starters. The breast was overcooked and the red wine sauced lacked any depth of flavour. The baked sardines allegedly came with a basil and garlic crust, Borlotti beans and a herb salad with lemon oil. I struggled to find any basil, garlic or lemon oil. I don't know what they braised the borlotti beans in because they had little or no taste. The sardines were lovely but rest of it was just apallingly executed. Steak is a great dish for judging the competence of a kitchen. It's difficult to get wrong and if you can't get it right then perhaps you're in the wrong section or profession. With that in mind and the disappointment of the first course we both ordered the Chateaubriand rare and rare to blue with extra sides of green beans and tenderstem brocolli. We did ask if it was possible to get a bernaise sauce but were advised that it wasn't. I know restaurants like to avoid going off menu but a bernaise takes me about 10 15 minutes to make so I'd expect a professional chef to do it in half that time. It's possible they didn't have tarragon or more likely the lack of demand would have meant them wasting most of it. Not a huge issue and it made no difference to our rating. The Chateaubriand was tough, chewy and lacked any seasoning it hadn't seen a flake of salt before it reached our table. Normally a great cut like this is tender to cut through, melts in the mouth, has great carmelisation on the outside giving that wonderful flavour. This was just like beef jerky....a real shame. The highlight was the cherries which were wonderfully sweet and bursting with flavour and the green beans. The tenderstem brocolli was underdone but I prefer that to overdone. The chips lacked any crisp bite, like they'd been sitting out for a while. The peppecorn sauce had a nice peppery hint to it but I do prefer a little more pepperyness. The red wine sauce was the same as the one used for the wood pigeon so again it lacked depth of flavour and could probably have benefited from reduction. My partner decided to forgo dessert as the previous courses were so disappointing and the few dishes we saw come out were not particularly appealing. I went for the cheese board. The cheeses were nice and mild. The figs went well. There weren't enough crackers and the slices of cheese were quite small. The front of house staff and serving staff were great, sadly the restaurant is let down by the kitchen. I expect much better food at £53/head. On the strength of the breakfast and dinner we had this place just can't deliver good food."

The food and service was first class, the food presentation and taste amazing. We ate for lunch and dinner, the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

This was the worst meal we have had for a long time .It started off so well with good warm bread .However, the 4 pieces of gnocchi was like were unrecognisable as gnocchi tasted like sludge furthermore, the Parmesan cheese served with it was so over cooked it was rock hard. All three of our party regrettable chose this dish. The head waiter the ambiance were lovely but this didn’t make up for such disgusting food quality… such a shame for a beautiful venue.

Had high hopes but very disappointed. Reception staff helpful and welcoming. Room tired and cluttered. Spa booked up (we went during a Polo week best avoided). But pool was welcome and enjoyable. Small courtyard to sit out in. Main problem was the restaurant service. Slow and chaotic. We gave up on the hot breakfast twice after waiting for over 30 minutes, and when enquired there was no record of the order. Staff were preoccupied with setting up for a wedding. Voir le carte

Our welcome was friendly. Our room (Egremont) was panelled, with a four-poster (not easy for the shorter guest, but very comfortable; cosy and quiet with a large en-suite bathroom containing a freestanding bath with shower off the taps. We did not use the pool or spa, but they were well-maintained and looked inviting. The public areas included a comfortable and bright conservatory and a restful upstairs sitting room; the bar was nice and the restaurant excellent; we enjoyed our breakfasts (prepared to order, freshly squeezed orange juice) and two evening meals, which were well cooked, well presented and very enjoyable. Good wine list (though not cheap). There is a separate small dining room...

Really disappointing experience from start to finish. Service was poor from arriving and then the waitress decided to clear the table half way through eating we never did see her again, and ended up going to reception to pay the bill. We are not fussy eaters but I am cautious of what I eat so had checked the menu out online, the menu in the restaurant did not have any of the choices advertised online and actually left me with no choice but to skip starters and main course and have a cheese board with a glass of wine (to be honest more than happy with this option) but definitely overpriced much like the rest of the menu. The atmosphere was boring and although the weather was nice it was uncle...

We love Midhurst this beautiful hotel have dined here several times. We 'll probably choose somewhere else next time tho as the food served in the Restaurant is overpriced for lunches. £19 for a main course is fine, providing you get top quality good sized portions, but not when you get average quality tiny portions. Around £6-8 for starters dessert is too high too, which is why we didn 't have either, especially after seeing what was coming out for other diners. Just tiny portions for the money. Even when you factor in the surroundings service, which is fine but not silver service incidentally (nor do they advertise it as such) I appreciate costs are rising for everyone that a balance has t... Midhurst is about 20 minutes by car away for us so it's local by road but not walkable. We haven't eaten here for years and were enticed back with an online deal. It didn't seem to have changed much in all the years! We went on a Monday and there weren't many other diners but lots of people were using the Spa so that bodes well for this well heeled country town eatery. The food good with flashes of brilliance such as the pulled meat over the Yorkshire pudding. Classic coq au vin was well flavoured and tasty but we both commented on the cut of meat I guess you get used to what you think of coq au vin!! Cheeseboard needed an overhaul or at least an introduction to what the cheese were. Other t...

We had spa treatments lined up for the afternoon and lunch with a glass of bubbles was included in the package. We were shown to our table and given menus and a wine list. With lunch being part of the package I had to leave my seat and check with the maitre de as to what was actually included rather than being advised when seated. With the option of two courses each, I went for starters and main and my wife went for main and desert. I chose the crispy Parma ham with poached egg followed by the Moroccan Lamb and my wife chose the herb gnocchi followed by the Creole fruit salad. Not much could criticised about my starter other than the poached egg was over cooked but my Moroccan Lamb was far f...
