"Fun Friday with fresh fish. Tried Sam's on a Friday evening. They don't take reservations and the place was packed but we decided to brave the 45 minute wait for a table based on the enthusiasm (and honesty) of the greeting we received. We waited in the cocktail bar upstairs (also packed .... 15 minutes before a seat was available). I make the points about the waiting and the seats so that you expect it, and so that you're not put off by it, because the food is worth waiting for. Between us we tried grilled mackerel, pan seared scallops, grilled sardines and grilled chicken with bacon. All were cooked beautifully, were ample portions and came with refreshing salads and crusty bread. Our server was attentive and enthusiastic and the front of house manager (who'd greeted us when we arrived) followed up with us a couple of times during the meal to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed, then shouted a goodbye and thank you from the far end of the restaurant as we left. Genuine enthusiastic staff, good service, fun atmosphere and nicely cooked food."

"We drove from London to meet friends and chose this pub as the ambience looked good. We booked a table for 4 beforehand. On arrival we saw a gentleman sit down at our reserved table the bar tender said that we had booked the table. I apologised to the man but received a glare and a grump. I guess he and his wife and dog are locals and get fed up with visitors taking up their space. Again I apologise to him! Our friends arrived and having not seen them for many years we were very animated in conversation but not to much to notice the great food that was delivered the Moules had been delivered direct from sea that morning and they were so delicious probably the best I have ever eaten. Other dishes bought were equally delicious. The beer apparently was also good as my husband drank 4 pints. So when in Fowey pop in! Oh and I love the fact that dogs are allowed after all they are part of the fabric which makes Fowey so special."

"Definitely one to go out of your way for. Beautiful evening spent here with spectacular food. We had the Hot Meat Pizza and Bouillabaisse, which were both delicious. Would have definitely had one of the desserts if we could have fitted it in! Definitely recommend trying the cocktails too. The Apple Mojito was perfectly refreshing whilst watching the sun go down out of the floor to ceiling windows. Service was friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for the staff. I would recommend parking just up the hill- it's on the right on your way down. Reasonably priced or free after 6pm. Just a short walk away. Definitely recommend!"

"My girlfriend and I dined at this restaurant on a Monday evening, which is not typically a busy day. However, we arrived at 6:30pm and it was the last available table! The front of house manager greeted us warmly and handled a small issue with our reservation effortlessly. We were seated in a cozy area and offered drinks while our table was prepared. We quickly received glasses of Prosecco along with the menus, and they asked about any allergies—I mentioned my dairy intolerance which they noted. Soon after, we were led to our table with a beautiful view of the estuary, where our wine was waiting. A lovely amuse bouche and bread (with butter and oil for me) were served to start. My partner enjoyed a sweet potato foam, while I had a smoked salmon and caper dish (dairy-free). Both were delicious. Our smoked mackerel starters were equally delightful, one with a dairy foam and one without. Our main courses arrived in a timely manner and were both beautifully presented—roast cod for me and chicken breast for my partner. The dishes were all delicious. We finished our meal with an Irish coffee and a panna cotta, both of which were superb. Overall, it was an outstanding dining experience with impeccable service. Many Michelin-starred restaurants could take notes from the Old Quay House. We can't wait to return. "Lovely restaurant with absolutely beautiful food and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is mostly South East-Asian inspired dishes with plenty of seafood options, and a couple of more Mediterranean style items. I had a Sri Lankan Hake curry, which was light, fresh, and perfectly spiced. I also got to taste the salmon with dal and the lamb giouvetsi which were both very tasty (I would choose the lamb if I visited again). For dessert, I chose a warm plum cake which was light, sweet but not too decadent. It was a great finish to the meal. Prices were around 18-20 for a main, which I thought was reasonable given the area and the quality of food. The staff were very pleasant and we enjoyed a couple of laughs with them. I'd recommend booking as it seemed busy."
