The food and tapas are delightful, and the atmosphere is inviting. The beer garden is lovely, and there’s a wide selection of cocktails to choose from. The service is excellent, and the staff is friendly. It’s definitely worth a visit!

I discovered this hidden gem of a pub, featuring amazing tapas and a great selection of gins. If you're in Barnsley, you must visit this place; you won't be disappointed! I had my first visit to The Royal last night for cocktails and tapas with my work friends, and it certainly won’t be my last! The staff were friendly and surprisingly quick, even though the pub was extremely busy. The food and drinks were fantastic and reasonably priced. We had the perfect table—it was a bit quiet (which was nice) and offered us some privacy to enjoy each other’s company. I definitely recommend this place and plan to come back with my family! Unfortunately, it looks like this place has lost its standards with the change in ownership. A reservation was made a few weeks in advance and then confirmed the week before. We turned up to be informed that the table we had booked was not available as whoever had done it had not 'locked out ' the table. However, after a while and discussions between us and the management, we were allowed to sit as we wished. Everyone apart from 1 ordered tapas which was good. The steak and chips meal which was ordered we had to chase up to be told the chef had not been informed that it was a main meal ! We booked for a funeral tea 3/10/23 Farrah manageress explained that they don’t usually serve anything other than tapas; however the chef and kitchen came up with a superb display of fresh sandwiches with real butter ; a fabulous selection and farm shop sourced produce. Homemade sausage rolls, pork pies and chips; then we had 10 x set tapas menus which complimented the traditional fayre. A truly perfect combination. The kitchen staff, bar staff, waiting staff and of course Farrah made this daunting event into a celebration of life! Opening up early too to accommodate the timing of the day. Gone Seriously down hill! Came for my daughters 21st Birthday Celebration and was so disappointed. Been coming here for years and always been a treat. Entered the building to sub zero temperatures, was told to sit at our table and someone would take our order for drinks, no one came so we went to bar instead, mentioned the coldness to a member of staff who informed us the heating was broke, mentioned the open fire and was told they had nothing to light it with! Never before have I had to eat a meal with my trench coat on! Man entered the building for tonight's entertainment the quiz!!!
