"There are three different dining areas in the hotel including one which could be used for a family gathering or special occasion. The latter and one of the other areas both overlook the water and hills at the front of the hotel so if your...looking for a view best to ask. We were staying a few nights as residents and were automatically allocated a table with a view which was good. The other dining area alongside the lounge bar is attractively furnished and decorated. There are quality paintings from local artists on the walls throughout the hotel which acts as gallery space. Breakfast was served overlooking the water and there was a good choice of items including porridge, full Scottish (with tattie scones), black pudding, etc all using quality products nicely cooked. Excellent. We had two evening meals, again served in the area overlooking the water. There was a decent selection of items on the menu representing local dishes and other popular choices. Eight starters priced between ten mains dishes and desserts On our first evening I chose Loch Fyne Scallops and my wife the Langoustines which were both poached in a lemon white wine. The scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious as were the langoustines although my wife found dealing with the shells a bit of a fiddle. For mains we both had Sirloin Steaks served with a whisky sauce and accompanied with mushrooms, tomato and chips Again the food was cooked to our preference and of a very good quality. On our second evening we had Haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce and Bruschetta for starters followed by Fish Chips The food again was very good. There were a number of guests dining and there was a good ambiance. Service was efficient and pleasant in our experience and we were able to retire to the guest lounge after our meals for some drinks in very comfortable surroundings. Overall, quality food nicely cooked and served."

We stayed for nights. Our room, No was very comfortable and had a beautiful view looking over to the Kyles of Bute. Greg, the owner was very welcoming and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

The staff were outstanding and we were made to feel welcome on the first day even though we were not staying over. We then had drinks and meal on last night and it was fantastic well worth 6 stars. Really recommended this hotel

Booked one night in October. Delighted with room Kyles' facing spacious room with very comfortable poster bed. Had dinner in hotel. Small and sharing tapas on offer. All delicious but we ordered too many. Excellent breakfast. Very Covid wary and felt very safe....Highly recommended.

Unique range of Scottish styled tapas at this restaurant. Great views across the Kyles of Bute. Friendly and helpful staff. Tapas included smoked salmon, tempura haddock, chicken satay, pancake roll, etc. Very different. Good quality food and all seemed home made. Service was not quick...and the restaurant was not busy but this was not an issue for us. Found the for to be good value for money considering the decent size of portions. These are not small spanish tapas sized but decent portions. Would recommend if in the area. Voir le carte

This is a really lovely hotel.Staff work hard to create a warm, attentive and welcoming environment. Rooms are great. We stayed in bedroom 3 which we'd recommend, it has a beautiful view and bathroom. Bed comfy and no noise from other rooms which makes for a restful sleep. We stayed for a week, ate in hotel restaurant every night except for one when we went to The Oystercatcher. I can honestly say that food here was better and very good value. Don't hesitate to come if you want a relaxing break with beautiful views and great food.

Went for dinner with the family. Lovely location. It was very quiet, probably because of the weather. Ordered 5 fish and chips, lovely fish, tasted fresh. Came with ‘chunky chips’ which was basically baked potatoes cut into massive wedges. They were pretty dry. Ordered a child’s macaroni cheese. Portion sizes were good but it was almost inedible, more cheese than pasta. It was made with penne pasta. It cost just under £100, and we wouldn’t be back. Waitress forgot water I ordered but not a big deal. I did mention that the child’s meal wasn’t good but there was or explanation or apology.

We’ve been at the Royal an Lochan Hotel for three nights. It’s incredibly nice located. We’ve been at room number one and had a really nice view at the lake. The breakfast is absolutely fabulous. There is a buffet with fresh fruits, cereals, croissants and juices. Coffee is freshly made and we always drink ours with oat milk, which was no problem at all. You can also choose from a breakfast menu different egg specialities. They were all great. The dinner is also extremely good, we had different fish dishes and super delicious starters. Whenever you have an extra wish or a question they help you out. The staff is extremely nice, so we can highly recommend this little hotel and the restaurant.... Voir le carte

We stayed for a couple of nights in a wonderful room with fantastic views across the Kyles of Bute. To sit at the window and just take in the scenery was astounding. We ate wonderfully in the restaurant, although different with restrictions the staff...went the extra mile to make it all as best as it could be. Fresh seafood and other dishes served Tapas style which meant we could mix and match our meal. An interesting and innovative idea for such a good restaurant. It was very well appreciated. The helpfulness of the owners was excellent too. Having to start out very early on a Sunday morning to travel back home they prepared a wonderful packed breakfast. Hot bacon sandwiches, very neatly wr...

We spent 4 nights here a couple of weeks ago after making a last minute booking. We 'd dropped in for coffee several times in the past, so we know the views across the Kyle were superb, but this was our first time staying. Eleanor Greg gave us a warm welcome, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. Breakfasts were generous and very well cooked, and set us up for each day. We had a couple of evening meals which were also delicious, especially the venison on the night we arrived! Our room was spacious and comfortable, with the only disappointment being the shower, which was described as over the bath but was in fact a hand held spray (albeit, old world stylish! . If I had know, I...

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
