"I don 't review often, but needed to say how much I love this place. This was my second stay. The rooms are inconsistent, some charming, some kind of funky, some are almost like being in a hospital (I believe that is due to handicapped regulations). HOWEVER, the food is outstanding and most important, the staff incredible. Every person so kind and helpful. We were somewhat stranded, being American, afraid to drive on the wrong side of the road and needing a lot of taxi service. Once when there were no taxis a lovely guy (who was leaving and moving elsewhere soon actually) just drove us to the place we needed to go ten or so minutes away. When I offered to pay him he waved me off,saying he enjoyed the chance to take a break and go for a drive in the country! Amazing. Also, it 's perfectly located in a charming village, you can walk everywhere within the village. In addition, we booked late on a full weekend and were told we would have to move (we had two rooms) to different rooms once each during our three nights but when we got there they had managed to work it so we didn 't, which was so helpful. And the pub and restaurant are just adorable. If you wake up extra early from being on a different time zone, there is a Costa almost right across the street that opens very early and serves great coffee, but if you are up past seven just get coffee or cappuccinos at the inn, they are delicious. They also served us breakfast when we woke up at noon and it was all off menu. Wonderful place, wonderful staff."

Great Boxing day lunch. Huge portions, found out later you can ask for smaller portion. We were able to bring a doggy bag home, made a super sandwich!

very lively and lively atmosphere, had some beautiful beer, the steak that I had excellent and the merlot was very nice, with attentive and efficient staff in the restaurant, the bedrooms were fresh, clean, tidy and comfortable.

Lovely local pub, fantastic staff, so friendly and welcoming. Put on regular events for locals. The meet the neighbours evening was inspired and well attended for a first time event. The pub has a great atmosphere, lively but not loud and just has a great feel to it.

I really enjoy visiting this place. John has really turned it around from a grotty sports pub into a thriving traditional English pub and excellent restaurant. They have just had a new menu out. I would definitely recommend checking it out. Also had a fab time at the jubilee street party they held, excellent stuff! :

Had a great experience ! Very clean and hotel with amazing food. Coming from Chicago ; the staff here were so friendly and kind. During my stay I met the owner as well who was a very humble and polite man who really cared about his customers, treating us like family. Such a awesome pub and hotel with amazing atmosphere that's very live with all sorts of friendly people. When I have my next visit in surrey I will defiantly be coming back here.

Current landlord took this place on when it was one of the most unpleasant pubs in the area. It was gutted, refurbished and relaunched. Now it is a great place attracting a decent customer base and an appealing selection of ales and lagers. On top of that, they have a large restaurant area which includes the outside seating for the summer season. The food is very good indeed only marred by the above average prices. . I discovered this place after a little exercise cycling along the Downslink (see [hidden link] , and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is cycling/walking along this old railway route whether for a cup of morning or afternoon tea or for a decent meal.
