"WOW, what a great country pub. Had a meal at the Pig Whistle Cartmel) last week and it was fantastic, very tasty and well presented. Staff very attentive and could not do enough for you which made are visit one to remember. Bar full of locals which tells you the new owners Dean Stephanie and their staff are running a welcoming friendly pub. Lovely beer garden at the rear so you can sit in the sun and admire the fantastic views overlooking Cartmel and the surrounding country side. Booked in again this weekend and can't wait. A must visit if you are in the Lake District or live locally. Guinness very nice £5.80) and the wife had a fantastic cocktail."

Nipped here for a drink whilst on a day out. Lovely, quaint pub, owners lovely and friendly, dogs are allowed too.

Great bar, great views, missing out on food, should have the beef barms on every night, not just quiz nights, as the rest of the pub food prices are scandalous

Went for food with my family and was delighted with both the service from Luke and his colleagues and the quality, portions and price of his food. We will definitely return next time we’re in the area!

Tried calling to make a table reservation but the mailbox was full. Went in person and it was closed. Tried the following night bar service only and no food for the foreseeable. Not a good way to run a business at least put a message on the phone and a note on the door!!

We stopped in after we'd been out for a meal in Cartmel and were so pleased we did! First thing to say is that the pub is under new management and so I'd pay more attention to reviews in the last few weeks than any before their time. We met Dean, who has recently taken over the pub and lives there with his young family. Seems a really nice guy and hope it all works out for them based on our experience I'm sure it will. Nice atmosphere, decor etc. and good selection of food and drinks. If we'd been staying in Cartmel longer then we'd have come back for lunch but unfortunately we were leaving the next day.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
