"We used to love to come here. We visit every year for my Mum's birthday. It still has nice room and garden to sit in. But the menu, coffee, and quality of service has diminished which is a shame. I would still say its a nice place to visit but it used to be lovely on the pricey side but a nice treat. Now, it's expensive and OK but if I were going again, I would probably have lunch in Stamford instead, or bring a picnic. In the Orangery, you used to get a lovely cafetiere of coffee, now it's depressingly out of a machine prices on par with a motorway services Starbucks. The staff were struggling with how busy the place was. It was the day of Battle of the Proms so they may have had more visitors than normal. We waited for a table which was fine. However once sat we found the menu has been cut down. We were too late for brunch, to early for afternoon tea. Lunch was pork belly hot sandwich, or lamb meatballs or cod loin. All over twelve pounds in price. I think the quality of food is still good but not the choice. We went for chips....as didn't fancy pork belly, lamb or cod. They were ok but delivered in silver buckets which held about 10 chips. No bowl or plate with them either. The lad brought the 3 bucket miniatures out with them clutched to his chest...I guess the kitchen had no trays. The girl on the till went to replace scones, which were out of a packet (I thought they may have been homemade....alas not). She dropped lid covering cakes and replaced it after it had been on the floor. I'm not fussy but....yeah....not what I would expect really. The staff looked sad and stressed. So ....go to Orangery if you are gasping for a drink on your visit to Burghley. You may have to book table beforehand, expect it to cost you, be busy, staff grumpy and it will be like most places just ok....not as special as it once was."

Twenty minutes for a not very hot latte to arrive. You have to find a table first which they don’t tell you until you get to the till, all adding to the pain.

We absolutely enjoyed our afternoon tea. We first toured the house and then headed for tea to celebrate Mother 's Day (US). The staff was very considerate of my request and they added a 'Happy Mother 's Day ' card to her tray when they brought it, and also they had a vegan tray for one member of our group. Great service and delicious sandwiches. Highly recommend. Service: Dine in

The last time I went to the Orangery (in June) with my husband we enjoyed breakfast. Unfortunately when I looked at the cushions on the chairs they were very dirty, not the look you want for a place like Burghley. Hope this is sorted on my next visit. Parking: The new parking area is much further away from the house and a bit of a trek if you have difficulty walking, hopefully there will be some new benches placed along the way. (Use to like the old parking spot under the trees)

Lovely restaurant at Burghley House, Lincolnshire. Once you're done visiting the spectacular palatial mansion that is Burghley House you might want to relax at The Orangery, especially in the picturesque outside seating area. You order your food at the desk, it will be brought to you (So, do memorize your table number! . Full lunches and light bites are available. I just had a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, which was lovely. Alas, for us beer drinkers the selection is limited to ONE beer, the dreaded Sharpe`s Doom Bar. Anyway, the ambience is wonderful, and the prices, while elevated, aren't a rip-off.

Popped in, on the Food Festival weekend . Wish we hadn't. Should have bought from the stalls outside and sit on the grass where the atmosphere was so much friendlier. The meal I requested was not available, no problem......so I ordered the Cheese board. I received Fried Haloumi salad.!!!!!! We both wanted Lattes , but the machine was broken. I ordered a slice of gateaux that was on display, and saw that cake fall to pieces as the waitress tried to plate a slice. She was barked at by the boss. They were not having the best of days. All the staff looked stressed and miserable. We could not get out of there fast enough. Such a shame, it used to be so much better.

We were gifted a voucher for afternoon tea for two. Booking was easy online, I added the voucher number to the booking. All ok on arrival although the little 2 seater table felt a bit like we were sat in the aisle. Luckily it wasn’t busy. Decaf coffee was a bit too strong for me. No refills were offered so we weren’t sure if they were included. Food was nice. On leaving we double checked before we left as no one had come back to us. This caused some confusion when our booking was checked, finally the third person we asked said that we owed another £25 as the voucher was afternoon tea for 2 but was only for one person. We obviously paid but wondered if this wasn’t very clear when my son bough...

We have eaten at the Orangery before and thoroughly enjoyed it so did not hesitate to book again for a celebratory meal. We arrived at about 12:45 having booked a table (lunch served 12 14:30). when we went to order our main course we were told that neither of our choices were available these were the only meat dishes on the main menu. I said I thought this was not acceptable given that we were not at the end of the lunch period. Eventually we were told that the kitchen could provide our choice but there would be a 30 minute wait not too serious given that we had a lovely situation looking out onto the garden. When the food finally arrived, it was good! Went to order desserts and again told...

Lovely food and drink in a beautiful location sadly let down by extremely disorganized service. We arrived on time for our afternoon tea reservation but after asking to be shown to our table we then had to wait before we were even offered a tea or coffee. I went and asked if we needed to order at the till after 30 minutes the tea didn 't come for a further 15 minutes after that. In total we waited for 55 60 minutes after our arrival before the food arrived. We 'd been forgotten about. The manager was lovely and apologetic this wasn 't her fault she seemed to be the only one checking on tables and keeping an eye on which orders were actually being completed the rest of the waiting staff seeme...

"Bank Holiday Monday in Stamford. Most places are shut, and the town is a lot quiter than usual... My wife is MADLY hungry, and insists we choose somewhere QUICKLY (this isn 't a request! , so we head into the very first place we come across No1 Kitchen. We 'd glanced at the menu on the way in, but our only real concern was that it was open, and it had food. A very friendly waitress showed us to our table, in a lovely corner spot, and I availed myself of the facilities, which were spacious and pristinely clean (something of a 'yardstick ' for us in terms of a well looked after restaurant... The waitress was soon back for our drinks order, and once she 'd delivered our Cokes we went for the Hot and Spicy Burger, with twisty fries, and a Mediterranean Lamb Burger, with corn on the cob. This too arrived promptly, with various Heinz condiments, and everything was hot and fresh! Both burgers were utterly SPLENDID, and we agreed they were The Real Thing, and particulary suited to discerning adults. There were PLENTY of twisty fries, which were crispy, well presented, and nicely seasoned. The burgers were deceptively filling, and my wife couldn 't quite manage hers, but even whilst eating we were planning our next visit, to try out other burger options. Overall, this was nothing short of a Perfect Lunchtime Visit, and we 'd enthusiastically recommend it to other burger lovers! Even if I tried my hardest, there was absolutely NOTHING to fault about this gorgeous restaurant, and we 're amazed to have never seen/visited before. It won 't be long before we put this right..."

"This used to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Stamford, up until I ordered a takeaway last Friday. I am vegetarian and have been for many years, so I order on the phone and not via just eat to reiterate my dish is to be...just sauce with no meat. I ordered a tikka masala sauce and ate about 1/4 of it. The next day I went to have my leftovers and noticed pieces of chicken in the dish!! I felt sick and then realised had probably eaten small bits of chicken the night before. Ew. I threw away the dish and the accompanying dishes because who would eat dry naan and rice? I called them about this disgusting issue and they proceeded to imply I was lying, as they do not prepare the meat with the sauces. When I responded with the fact I have photos of it, they changed their tone and offered me £10 off my next meal there, I said this wasn't acceptable as I cant trust their food preparation practices anymore and I said I wanted a refund instead. They accepted and I was told I had to come into the restaurant to get this refund, despite the fact I originally paid over the phone but when I got to the restaurant they tried to refund me only for the sauce, which does not cost must but I explained that I couldn't eat any of the meal and I was out of pocket much more than just the sauce. They finally offered a refund of no more than £10 and tried to give cash until I refused and then eventually I was given the refund on my card. The man was quite rude the whole time I was there. Their excuse was the chef had got the order mixed up and this was the reason for the chicken pieces, its very obvious the dish was made with chicken and just plucked out before sending it to me. I am highly allergic to prawns and this would be a different story if it was not chicken being lazily served!!! If it was a “kitchen mix up” then I would have had whole bits of chicken in the dish and this would have been a genuine mistake and could have been rectified. Watch out, bad food preparation and lazy approach to dietary requirements and allergies."
