"Thank you Old Stamp House for a lovely, luxurious, dining experience. We were made to feel most welcome from start to finishby all the staff. The food was exceptional. We opted for the paired wine choice, Craig was very helpful with his explanations relating to each wine.and for us the pairings really seemed to work. It was luxurious but there was no faff or over attentiveness, that’s just how we like it. Thank you to all the team at the Old Stamp House, Sharon John Jones"

Five stars aren’t enough! The restaurant is small, with limited seating, but the service is impeccable and friendly. They showcase the best food that Cumbria has to offer, and the quality, creativity, and flair are evident in every dish. There’s really nothing that could be improved! I visited in April and can’t wait to return soon.

This was our first experience dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and it exceeded our expectations. The staff was exceptional and incredibly knowledgeable about both food and wine. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between cozy and modern. The cuisine was absolutely outstanding! I highly recommend this hidden gem in the heart of Ambleside. Voir le carte

The tasting menu was exceptional, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. The owner made a special effort to visit each table, which made us feel right at home. Standout dishes included foraged mushrooms with egg yolk and truffle, salt-aged duck, and a delightful dessert featuring gingerbread, bee pollen, marigold, and sweet cheese mousse. While it’s not on the cheaper side, it’s definitely worth indulging for a special occasion. Food rating: 5.

A fabulous dining experience. Sumptuous, elegant, high quality food brought to you by people who are experts in their field. A really exceptional combination of locally sourced food with well paired international wines. Each course explained with enthusiasm, knowledge and care. Highly recommended, though patience is required for the 6mth wait for a table. Well worth the wait, so just book it and have something very special to look forward to. Service: Dine in

"The Moon Highgate is a family business, offering excellent vegan options, fabulous desserts, a wine list with clearly labelled vegan wines, so it is heaven for diners like me. We were celebrating as it was World Vegan Day, kicking off World Vegan Month, my 31st vegan anniversary and my husband had just finished Go Sober for October. We ordered a very nice bottle of Kintu Cabernet Sauvignon, whilst perusing the menu, a difficult choice, as everything sounded so good. I chose salt baked beetroot salad, beetroot vinaigrette and walnuts to start and hubby king oyster mushroom confit with polenta, both excellent dishes. My main course was roast Jerusalem artichokes, cavolo nero and baked spelt and pumpkin ravioli for hubby with sides of Chantenay carrots and a side salad to share. What satisfying autumnal dishes they were, totally delicious. I was ruined for vegan dessert options, so ordered the bitter chocolate ganache and caramelised pineapple so we could share, how wonderful to have that choice, they were scrumptious and heavenly. We had a quick chat with chef Leon, who said he felt a bit limited on vegan options, but having had some poor experiences over the last two weeks at other restaurants, I think he is underselling himself, I think he is very creative. What a great place The Moon is, highly recommended to other vegans when in the area, we will certainly be making a return visit. Updated from previous review on 2017-11-05"
