The Moorhen - Carte

Lovely place and the staff are very nice and polite but when I received my meal I was a bit shocked at the amount of mushrooms I was given and was told that was the standard amount, the food was very nice though.

I enjoyed a lovely meal with a great variety of options on the menu, and the new decor is a significant improvement. The service was attentive, and all the staff were courteous. My only suggestion would be that some of the dishes could have been served hotter.

our extended family had christmas dinner in the moorhen Christmas afternoon. eating was nice, hot, large portions and served quickly. our waitress (sue a) was friendly and helpful. thanks for your help on Christmas! the restaurant was beautifully decorated and we had a private room at the top. Moorhen public is good. Servers are pleasant and attentive. Even on the Saturday evening we went. The meal is decent portion sizes are okay with the exception of the desserts. The desserts are small but the price of them is not. This needs addressing as it lets the experience down. I mean £6 for a small ice cream based dessert is strong.

while seated at a table we witnessed a woman clean a table she wiped most of the crumbs onto the floor and walked away and never returned to sweep the said crumbs from the floor during the time we spent there we also noticed that most of the floor under the tables were dirty.. Had a really tasty steak and ribs, presented nicely, with some baby tomatoes and watercress salad, the rump was beautiful, nice size piece, cooked as requested medium well, chunky and full of flavour. The ribs and chips were good too, with a glass of Shiraz to accompany it, a really good value meal. The staff were friendly, the pub itself had a nice atmosphere, was well decorated and clean, we'll definitely be looking forward to our next visit. Voir le carte

What a fantastic pub this is now. I used to come here when it was the Hungry Horse which was large portions and cheap prices and although the portion sizes are not quite the same now, the quality is far superior and the decor inside is that of an upmarket restaurant. The setting is lovely and and the staff are very friendly. I had the dipping steak which I have to say on this occasion was equally as good as Miller and Carter. The choice of steak is superb and I will definitely be back to try another.

I wouldn’t recommend the cheesy chips with bacon bits. There was hardly any cheese or bacon, and they arrived stone cold. You’d be better off ordering regular chips with your meal, as you get much more for your money. The food was just okay; I remember it being better when it was Hungry Horse, with higher quality food and better value. I've visited a few times, but both the food and service seem to have declined. It felt like they were trying to cut costs on staff as well as the ingredients. There were only two people serving all night, and while they did their best to keep up with a busy restaurant, it just wasn’t enough. It might be a while before I decide to go back.

I had a lovely meal after the weekend while on my way home. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant and family-oriented. However, I did notice that after we received our main course, no one came to check on us to see if everything was okay. I would have liked to order a drink and some extra brown sauce, but I couldn’t use the Greene King app because there were no table numbers. Eventually, I was able to call someone over, and our waiter took my drink order, but it did take some time, which was a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, that extra attention would have been nice. That said, I can’t fault the food; you definitely get what you pay for, and... Voir le carte
