"Fantastic Sunday Lunch. Portion size was incredible. After getting off at wrong bus stop we nipped in the Daleside Arms because we thought we would have ages to walk they were quite rude in manner of telling us we have book. It's just as well because we set out to go to the Green Tree right from the word Go!!. We ended up getting here later than planned as we had walk bit further. But the Staff were great and bent over backwards squeeze us in. It was towards end of Sunday Lunch but they checked with Kitchen and made us feel like it was not a problem. We had a Child and baby who was flat out in pushchair. Sunday lunch was Fantastic and portion size was super. Staff helpful attentive and friendly and after reading good reviews on Google I set out try somewhere new and it was well worth it. Thank you for your help and Kindness we will recommend you to all the friends family and we will be back."

"Our one-night stay was very good. We traveled from South Yorkshire to visit friends in Spennymoor and decided to stay overnight. The rooms were very nice, albeit a bit small, but perfect for a short stay. They seemed to be newly renovated as the bathroom fittings, large TV, and decor were all up to date. The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding. The food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced for the quality. The bar was also great, with a large TV and two more showing sports. It was quite busy on a Saturday night, but all the locals were friendly and there was a good, safe atmosphere. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area."

"cross keys is our local, we love and recommend the carvery. the meat is cooked to perfection, beautiful yorkshire puddings, and salad cup (that is what I call it)!. beautiful staff, nice eating, exactly what they want. and then no more. oh yes, the puds are also fab, ginger cake mmmm."

"The menus were difficult to read due to poor lamination, and we weren't offered any drinks when we sat down. The three staff members at the bar spent the entire evening chatting, and after waiting for 10 minutes, I had to get up and request a drink order. When we finally placed our food order, I was informed 10 minutes later that they were out of pollo Kiev, so I had to choose something else. I ordered a prawn starter with a side salad, but it arrived as a main course with tomatoes, rice, and mozzarella leaves topped with balsamic dressing—totally not what I ordered. We found ourselves getting up again to ask for another drink since no one checked back on us. My partner ordered the chicken Diane, which arrived flat as a piece of paper. After waiting an additional 5 minutes for the chips that were supposed to accompany the dish, he had nearly finished his chicken before the chips finally arrived. Then, 20 minutes after we had finished eating, someone came over and asked if we wanted to take our leftovers home, as I hadn’t finished my meal. They offered us a voucher, which was a nice gesture, but we were really just looking forward to a relaxing, child-free evening with good food. To top it all off, we had to wait again for the bill, even though the restaurant was quiet and no one came to our table. We eventually got up and went to the bar to settle our bill. To our dismay, the staff were laughing and talking about us as we left. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience. Overall, it was a disaster from start to finish. What a pity!"

"We used the Pizza takeaway service a couple of times and the Pizza 's were absolutely stunning. Stonebaked and plenty of your chosen toppings, which were all very fresh. This prompted us to try their resteraunt food. We decided on a Sunday lunch, we sat in the bar area as we had our dogs with us and we were politely informed that they were not allowwed in the main resteraunt area fair enough . The table looked as though it had not been cleaned in a decade. My daughter cleaned it off with some baby wipes we had in the dog bag and three of them were almost black. We had already purchased drinks at the bar and taken them to our table with us. The young woman from behind the bar bought us over the Sunday lunch menu. We chose our starters; Creamy garlic mushrooms with a side salad Garlic mushrooms were in fact in a tart, not many mushrooms and not really much in the way of garlic! Salad was limp and consisted of lettuce and a piece of tomato! . Prawn cocktail a reasonable percentage of the prawns were still frozen! Salad...same story! . Pate and crusty bread with chutney Pate was ok. Crusty bread was three slices of a demi baguette toasted very hard . Chutney was insipid and tasted of not much at all!. We had approximately a 15 min wait between starter and main. We asked for a vegetarian sunday lunch and was asked if we would like beef or chicken gravy??? Then we orded a chicken roast and a steak pie you didn 't get an option with the veg, chips and microwaved, watery mashed swede! Vegetarian meal was a total tragedy. Concrete mashed potato, sloppy microwaved swede. Roast potatoes cooked in either beef dripping or goose fat and one small piece of parsnip cooked in the same! And a training football sized, rock hard yorshire pudding, that had also been cooked in animal fat! Chicken roast. Rubber chicken, I am sure it would have bounced if we had tried! Concrete mash, microwaved sloppy swede. The obligatory animal fat roasted parsnip and roast potatoes. Not forgetting the rock hard Yorkshire pudding that was about the size of a training football. There were vegetables to be shared between these two meals.... 'A selection of fresh vegetables '. The cabbage was boiled to within an inch of its life and the carrots were dried out in the middle, that was the entire vegetable selection! The steak pie was served with chips and sloppy microwaved swede. The chips were ok, but well over cooked. Swede awful, no flavour. The steak pie...wasn 't exactly a pie, it was a dish of actually quite nice tender stewed steak with a rich beef gravy with a puff pastry top. The puff pastry top was nearly 3 inches deep and hard as a bullet, you just needed to look at it and it exploded. Plusses: Staff are friendly and helpful Prices would be reasonable if the food was any good!! The location of the pub itself Great Pizza! The resteraunt area is bright and inviting Minuses: Had to teach the bar staff how to pull a Guiness properly! Most of the food is awful There are on average three different sports being shown at the same time in the bar area, making it very noisy. The non restaraunt pub area seating and area doesn 't look as though it has had a decent deep clean since the banning of smoking in pubs! The pub area is quite dark and dingy. Last food orders are taken at 18:50 ten to 7pm! !!!!"
