"This place used to be so much better. It's lost its buzz. New rules food no longer served in the bar after 6pm (why? , combined with the fact the lighting is too bright (bright spotlights all over the bar not dimmed at night , no log fire burning any more, means that the bar has emptied and become sterile. That feel has spread to the whole hotel. The food used to be so much better before James Martin took over. It had interesting healthy options, gone. Local produce and game, also gone. All the imagination replaced by steak and chips, lamb shank, fish and chips. A glorified pub with all the character stripped out. Remarkable that you can do that to a characterful building with so much history in so short a time. Almost an achievement to marvel at. Add to that the near 400 per cent mark up on some wines...which I can stomach in a Michelin star restaurant, but not when I'm being served glorified pub food in a sterile environment whilst being told where I can and can't eat. The only redeeming feature is the staff, who are all excellent and friendly. But with fewer customers to serve in the bar at night, I'm sure they are kicking their heels and wondering what went wrong. We won't be going back in a hurry, and we have stayed there on numerous occasions previously."

I only had a gf vegan sundee and a tee, but her menu really looked at attraction. in consideration of the employment and the service I would not say that it is too expensive. I come back to lunch when we are back in cotswold!

Beautiful restaurant. Excellent Service. Chose roast beef from the Sunday lunch menu. All the food was very tasty but one criticism was that the beef, although great flavour, was not as tender as I would have liked. Would prefer option for sirloin or rib of beef and would have paid a little extra for this.

Very slow service. We visited yesterday the place was quiet. It still took 20 minutes to get our drinks order. The food was okay, though overpriced. I guess you pay for the nice environment. The coffee was very poor quality. 12.5% service charge added to the bill for slow service. Personally I would not go back. The place is resting on its reputation.

Hands-down the best Sunday roast ever, couldn’t fault any of it. We had 3 courses and all were perfect, no issues with service/wait times either. I wanted to write a review to mitigate a lot of the earlier ones which nearly put us off going. Will certainly return and think we will now be spoiled for a Sunday lunch anywhere else as it just won’t come close!

Went for a lunchtime family meal in the restaurant. The general ambience was good and the staff pleasant. The food, however, was of poor quality and overpriced. The Poussin came with chips so hard you could not pick up with a fork, half a bulb of garlic and rancid tasting stuffing. Also some of the meals were cold as were the plates. I have had much better meals elsewhere at half the price.

Firstly, the service was excellent. I brought my Sister up from Devon for her 50th Birthday. I raved about how amazing it would be as I dine out alot and a huge fan of James Martin. To say we were disappointed with the food is an understatement. The beef was tasteless and tough, the famous yorkshire pudding was dry and cold. The roast potatoes had a distinctive after taste which was not pleasnt. James if you read this I am sorry but hugely feel let down for such an expensive meal. Tania Robinson Braunton North Devon

I was excited to return to The Lygon Arms Hotel in Broadway for tea on my birthday. They made a big deal out of reserving, and then reconfirming it all electronically. We were staying at the nearby Abbott's Grange, which was lovely, so we stopped by in the morning to pick a nice place to be seated in advance. When we arrived promptly at 4:30 the room was completely empty. We were seated at our requested table, but then it took one entire hour for the tea to arrive!!! I was furious. I am convinced that all the scones in the cotswolds are made in one central bakery, and then delivered a few times a week, They all looked and tasted the same, and were pretty ordinary. So sad to have to write thi...

We visited The Grill to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday and we were really looking forward to the evening. On arrival the staff were extremely accommodating and welcoming. Our table was booked for 8pm and we didn't get our main course until just before 10. Tables that arrived after us were served prior to our table. When the food arrived the plates were cold and the steaks and lamb were actually cold. As we had waited for such a long time we didn't complain to avoid another delay. We were offered a sweet but by this time it was far too late. The prices you pay does not reflect the quality of the food. The overall experience was very disappointing and I would definitely not recommend this...

My sister and I spent 2 nights at the hotel. First night we ate at the grill restaurant. Food was nothing to write home about in fact it was rather disappointing. Portion sizes were not very big considering the prices they are charging. Lamb was cold and tough not much on the plate either. The second day we were fortunate enough to be booked into.the tavern to have lunch cooked by James himself and spend the afternoon in his company. The meal was outstanding the whole afternoon was amazing and we have wonderful memories to take away with us. It's such a shame the meal the first night was poor. Looking at the disappointing reviews it needs some changes to be made to bring it up to james stand...
