"I really wanted to be writing a glowing review, the Hatchet Inn is in an idyllic setting, surrounded by beautiful lush gardens, plenty of seating, and a sandpit for the kids though the spiky weeds do need removing! . Inside is full of antique beams and charming artefacts. We'd had drinks a while back here and wanting to book somewhere special for a long awaited post lockdown meal with my mother and son, I chose this place, and I've regretted it sadly since. Upon arrival, we received an indifferent welcome but requested a highchair which arrived a few minutes later. The drinks were good though £4.80 for a shandy is a bit steep. The biggest problem was the children's meals my sons was ridiculously small for the price £7.25 and the cottage pie lacked any meat, after being unable to flag down the waitresses attention I took it back to the bar and asked for a replacement due to the fact it was basically 3 tablespoons of mash and a zillion peas. 25 mins later with no apology it was plonked down, my son was actually crying by this point he was so hungry and refusing my meal in the meantime. It really didn't look any different except it was served in one of those shallow creme brulee style dishes. We had to rapidly decant it and fan it with a menu so that he could eat it. He even ate the peas which showed how hungry he was!No one bothered to come and check at any point if it was okay, when I paid up the waitress afterwards asked if it was okay and I said no, the portions really are not acceptable and need reviewing she just kinda shrugged her shoulders. My fish pie was not the best, under seasoned with a mix of fish, some better than others. Despite requesting both main dishes salads to not come with onion, they of course did and we had to pick it off. The waiter/ barman who delivered the meals did note it said on the order no onion too. No condiments offered. No guidance on how to order more drinks in these covid times most places we have visited only offer table service, so we didn't bother getting anything else.I really want to support our pubs post lockdown but this will not be one of them. A real disappointment sadly and we will not be returning."

A beautiful, traditional thatched pub in the heart of the Chute Forest, with excellent beer, lovely pub food and friendly staff and clientele.

Took my grandmother and my mum here in the same week. Beautiful quirky pub with really lovely staff. I had sandwiches both times which were delicious! Highly recommend this pub!

Stayed one night. . Toilet dirty and had to be cleaned at our request. Many black beetles crawling around carpet at night. Breakfast was good Reported beetles, in morning, no discount offered

A really good experience with delightful, friendly staff. Great selection of drinks including Timothy Taylor Landlord always great to see. Very good pub food especially the lamb in the giant Yorkshire pudding

Lovely building but disappointed by how the staff treated my boyfriend and I. We were offered food that we didn’t order and waited for over 40 mins for what we actually ordered. It wasn’t what we expected and won’t be going back.

We went for an anniversary lunch (late due to our anniversary being during lockdown! , luckily the weather was kind as we had to eat outside due to restrictions. Excellent menu, hard to choose, very tasty food, waitress lovely. All felt covid secure. Bottle of wine very reasonable priced. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

The pub ambience, wood smoke and low beams was lovely. The pub was not full, but the service, although friendly, was very slow. Had to wait half an hour for our starters. The tempura prawns were really good. Main course Fish Pie was pretty awful, very little fish, no visible sauce and too much mash, and very strange to accompany it with salad! It was disappointing since we’d lunched there previously successfully and had recommended it to friends.

I work in the area regularly and have eaten in many places nearby but this was my first visit here. It’s off the beaten track so I only became aware of it from my B&B hosts. The fact it was recommended says something. I had my evening meal there, butterfly king prawns, side salad and saute potatoes. The meal itself was well prepared and very appetising. With butterfly king prawns, you never know whether you’ll get 3 or 10 of them. I got 10, which was something of a jackpot. Other than the meal, it’s a very welcoming place with no small charm and character, and friendly and efficient service.

Popped in for lunch after walking the dogs over at Upavon. Nice place, small inside but very cosy. Outside had 3 big marquees so you could shade from the sun or rain. Friendly staff. The menu, to be fair, was the usual standard fare you get these days, nothing spectacular or over-interesting, but ok. Nothing of any note for our daughter-in-law, who is Vegan, so she just ended up with a bowl of chips. My wife had a ploughman's and I had gammon, egg, chips and peas. All decent sized portions and very tasty. I think with a more thought going into the menu, this place could be a lovely place to go back to time and again

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."

"We had a tremendously good lunch here today-the food was quite delicious, the staff were very friendly and helpful-I’d say it’s probably one of the best lunches I’ve had in quite some time….so to give you a clue we both had the pork-this sounded really lovely and we were not disappointed-pork belly, tenderloin,a faggot and a ham hock croquet with mashed potato and roasted cauliflower with a delicious jus and a slice of pickled apple( which I ate immediately with a piece of pork and when the waiter came to ask how our lunch was I asked if he could possibly get me another piece-which he did For dessert we shared the passion fruit crème brûlée which came with a passion fruit sorbet and some chocolate soil…..the focaccia we had at the start of the meal was superb and the coffee was also excellent -we do enjoy both cooking and eating-one of life’s pleasures and it’s abundantly clear the chef absolutely loves food too-a great display of cooking books from the greats sort of got me thinking it would be a good lunch…….also worth noting the drinks menu-some lovely wines, soft drinks and cocktails both alcoholic and non alcoholic. I finished off with a mocha which was hot chocolatey but not too sweet. Bradford on Avon is most definitely worth a visit and I’d say you would be foolish to miss out on a great experience if you didn’t also pop in to the bunch of grapes for some sustenance while there… Thanks for lunch and as Arnie says “ we’ll be back”….."
