"This is a lovely place with a great atmosphere. We were staying at the local caravan site (Robin Hood) and it was a 5 minute walk down a lovely lane to get there. We went first on a Saturday night and there was a DJ doing 80s 90s. The food system was a bit unconventional but as long as you listen to the bar staff it works. We had freshly baked proper pizza oven pepperoni pizza which was delicious. The staff were lovely even though it was very busy. Then we went on Sunday night. There was a limited menu but we had Greek pizza and a smash burger to share. Gorgeous. The beef was lovely quality and cooked perfectly. I spoke with Catherine about some of the negative comments on here. I think people need to chill out and enjoy something slightly different. There were locals at the bar (to be expected) but didn’t see any getting served before others and the locals we sat near were really friendly. Catherine is very sweet and the family is doing a great job providing something out of the ordinary. We will definitely go back thank you."

The home made wood fired pizza's were brilliant. Choice of pizza's was not massive but plenty. Chicken in a basket was really tasty. Voir le carte

Great pub in a very pretty village. The beer is excellent and the wine selection is pretty decent. Very friendly staff and a must if you are in the area. Pizzas are amazing and worth a detour.

A great little country pub tucked away in this quiet village. Great atmosphere on a summers evening, can only imagine how great it would be in winter with the open fire roaring away. Food menu is limited (this is not a critcism), it ensures everything is cooked fresh to order. The food we had was very high quality. Service is friendly and polite. Everything you could look for in a village pub. We'll be back.

The meal was delicious. However I was told I couldn’t order any side orders, and no deserts. So a little boring really. The service at the bar was bad. The staff favoured locals first. I was next in the queue but a local told the bar staff to serve an other local before me and she did. So I won’t be visiting there again on my next visit to Slingsby. I will find another pub that serves everything and anyone next in line.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
