"My recent visit to this restaurant was very disappointing and I will not be returning. I had visited a few years ago and had a much better experience, so it was disheartening to see such a decline. We went for Sunday lunch and found the restaurant nearly empty during peak hours, with a lack of atmosphere and outdated decor. The starters were mediocre, and the portions were small but edible. The roast dinners were subpar with soggy vegetables and terrible roast potatoes, although the beef and gravy were enjoyable. The kids' meal seemed undercooked, and although they took it back to cook longer, it was unappetizing and not eaten. The young staff members were friendly and doing their best, but it seems like the restaurant is struggling. It has potential due to its great location but is lacking in many areas. It would be a perfect project for Gordon Ramsay! It was extremely disappointing to spend money on a Sunday dinner only to have to go home and cook another meal."

Nice local pub featuring local beers. A good sensibly priced menu. Quite a reasonable welcome. Great parking.

We hadn't been to this pub in years, but decided to stop by for lunch. We enjoyed a couple of paninis with chips and salad, which were delicious. They also had a great variety of beers to choose from.

It was very disappointing. My fish was over cooked and had a few long bones in it. My wife had chicken and it was very dry. We told the waitress and she said she would tell the chef. She apologised but she didn’t cook it! Should have stayed at home and saved £30!

The meal was second rate, I had burger and chips not good my other half had meat pie which was very salty with cooked frozen veg, at least you could chew the meat. Spotted duck was tastless with watered-down custard. My pet hatred is dirty sauce bottles ask three times for a clean one in the end gave up. Not good for £47

Staying in the local area for new year celebrations, took a gamble on a family friendly pub we found via Facebook! Couldn’t have picked a better place! The food was OUTSTANDING. Large portions of hot delicious food. 4 adults 2 children made to feel very welcome excellent service. We’ve all left absolutely stuffed! Will definitely be back next time we’re in the area.

Nice and cost in the bar pub area, restaurant towards the back not used and hence cold in atmosphere Asked the two young employees about the different beers on tab, would have loved to learn more about the wide variety they actually offer Food was ok, nothing great. Liver bacon was very big portion, while the haddock poached was tasty but a very small portion, Christmas pudding was swimming in a sickly tasty custard … overall an ok experience but would not go again for a meal

We had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant. We ordered the Barnsley lamb chop and the paprika sirloin steak from the specials board, and both dishes were delicious. While the food took a little longer to arrive, it was clear that it was freshly cooked and worth the wait. The restaurant offers a good selection of real ales, friendly service, and reasonable prices for the quality of food. I will definitely be returning. The restaurant also has ample parking and multiple separate dining areas, so you won't feel crowded. Additionally, there is a fenced play area near the parking lot for kids to enjoy.

Well-priced Sunday roast and served quickly. Great beer and cider selection including a good Guinness. Really cosy, welcoming, old-style pub with tons of character, ample parking, a crackling fire and lovely, friendly, attentive bar and waiting staff (not to mention RECENT awards! . My wife and I like to try different pubs wherever we travel and found The Goat right on our doorstep, and would both highly recommend it for its Sunday lunch we had this afternoon and would definitely come back again, the perfect measure of a great pub well deserving of its awards! Well worth a visit if you’re in the area… or county.

We went on Boxing Day for a pre ordered lunch booking. Firstly we were sat in a dinner area on the left as you walk in no one else dining, no atmosphere and cold. One of us was gluten free celiac disease as per preorder but brought me normal bread so had to remind them, no separate butter for cross contamination of the other dinners we me. Due to being so cold we decided to have our main courses and leave, veg was served in silver servers however the hadn’t drained the water off so was swimming in water. Waitress clearing are starters was clumsy pilling all put at end of table and dropping items of cutlery, over all experience was unfortunately poor. The itemised bill was not easy to underst...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
