"We hadn’t been in the Clarence since the refurb and it looks great. We were attended to straight away and ordered our drinks which came quickly. The server brought our cutlery and an extra soup spoon. When my salad starter came I had to eat it with my steak knife and fork as that was the only cutlery I had been given. I gave it a wipe and kept hold of it for the second course! The main course for both of us was very nice. In fact the chips were really good! Coffee last and as amazing as it looks, please don’t make scorching hot coffee in a tall wine glass! The poor server almost dropped it on the table as the glass was so hot. I felt uncomfortable picking up a full, heavy hot wine glass by the stem so had to use a serviette to hold it. My other half had a proper glass coffee cup with a handle I’ve never been more jealous! So. Great service. Lovely food. More cutlery. Proper cups. I’m sure we’ll visit again!"

Absolutely beautiful Sunday dinner at the Clarence. The food was amazing freshly cooked and served perfectly. The service was excellent the waitress was very attentive and had a smile on her face. Five star and no negatives at all.

The food in this pub is beautiful. Me my wife and daughter thoroughly enjoyed everything about this pub. We were Evan lucky enough to get a complete tour of this lovely building by the extremely kind and friendly land lady. Highly recommend. Mr wend

Ten of us went and everything that was served was excellent, the chef came out to greet us, the waitress was great, the manageress was fantastic. We all had 3 courses, couldn't recommend this place enough. 5* from us all. Will be returning definitely. Voir le carte

Called in for lunch, surprised to see fairly quiet for a Saturday. Had sandwiches for 3, order arrived about 40 minutes later with one wrong item. Didn't moan due to the wait. They were ok and good value with fries. Staff hard to get these days but these errors shouldn't happen, she also tried to charge for a pint of cider when only half was ordered. What a shame, this is a lovely pub and could do so much better.

I am writing this review to inform the Bury community that I visited the establishment recently and wow-to say i’m disappointed is an understatement . I ordered the fish and chips and the price point was way too high for the quality. The fish was soggy and cold, the chips were barely edible, so the pea’s were the only highlight of the dish which is not something to congratulate. To top that off, the staff were not very engaging and lacked character, seemed to be there just because they had to be. All in all, would not recommend.

Back on form!! We heard the previous absentee London owners had sold to a new couple from the south coast. They are the breath of fresh air The Clarence needed. The quality of the food you get for the extremely reasonable prices means true value for money. My parents were visiting and really pleased we chose to return here, as they both loved it. Anyone who says the prices are high is either living in the dark ages, doesn't go out often, is tighter than a nun's...., or all 3. Support local businesses, and get to the Clarence for some good grub! Voir le carte

We came as a group of ten workmates. We preordered our food the day before. On arrival we were seated on the top floor. This is a beautiful building. The chef came out to greet us, which I thought was a lovely touch. I had onion bhajis which were a bit spicier than I expected but were delicious. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were delicious. I didn’t have a dessert but they looked equally delicious. We had plenty of wine and gin and tonics and some soft drinks. A really enjoyable night with lovely friends and amazing food.

4 of us for a reunion the last time we'd been to the Clarence was before lockdown. We ate upstairs in the restaurant though it was very quiet most people ate downstairs in the bar. For starters we had: Pulled Pork Croquettes, Halloumi Tempura x 2, and Onion Bhaji. All were very nice. For mains we had: Chaucer Burger, Halloumi Burger, Crispy Chicken Burger and Lemon Sole. Again, all meals really nice though the Lemon Sole was especially good and, at £14.50, was fantastic value. For dessert 2 of us had a selection of ice creams and the other 2 had the Crème Brulee. Staff were so friendly and efficient. All of us had 3 courses, all of had an alcoholic drink (plus one more alcoholic drink and a...

"Well, it 's been a while since I 've reviewed a place but this little gem has certainly reawakened my vigour for it. Visited this evening as a kind of belated birthday celebration with my husband and son and very glad we did indeed. We happened upon this place a few weeks back (passing by and grabbing a cocktail after the days plans fell through and instantly took to the place and it 's wonderful staff and from the off had intentions to visit again an so finally did tonight), within seconds of seating ourself at the bar we were remembered by the owners, which to me shows great calibre on the customer service front. As someone with an exceptionally sweet tooth when it comes to alcohol it was our lucky day to find they had cocktails on 2for£10 and hell can the owner Jo mix like a minx (even doing us an off menu blend to account for tastes). The husband not being a big drinker happily sat at the bar chatting with staff and customers nursing his Peroni whilst me and my son dived headlong into the extensive classical and modern mixed cocktail list. Having been lured into great expectations (previously sampling delicious tasters) from Jo 's lovely husband Dave on our first brief visit we were definitely eagerly placed to dive into dinner tonight. Our lovely waitress Sian, stood patiently while we chopped and changed idea 's and orders, laughed with us, checked regularly everything was to our tastes as did the other young waitress that dropped drinks over to us. Both girls portraying the perfect mix of friendly and professional, a refreshing change to be served by people that clearly enjoy their working environment. And on to the food... we started with olives (and boy was it a substantial portion in comparison with some establishments weak efforts), hubby was first in there, impressed with the quality of marinade (too many places these days forget the little efforts like this thinking folk can 't differentiate something tipped out of a supermarket packet). After much debate (I had my eye on far too many dishes) choices were made, Hubby had the Filo Kefta, which had a light pastry, adequate spice and smoothly complimentary dip, for main he went with the day 's Special of Lamb with fondant potato, heritage carrots and a divinely velvety Jus which he thoroughly enjoyed (and he 's hard to please, being well versed himself and making a point of getting the lovely Chef Darren a glass of wine in appreciation). The lad had a Sirloin steak burger cooked medium rare and is now demanding we visit again soon. lol I went with the Gravlax to start, instantly aware of the clean flavour from its curing cutting through (I even brought a titbit home for my kitty to enjoy), as for main, I 'd initially had my mind on fish but upon discovering the owner Jo was also a blue steak lover I had to try one there and wow they really take care in choosing their suppliers because that was an A grade cut of meat, even my son (who prefers medium-rare) upon trying a slice said it was an exceptional piece of meat I had it with asparagus, no sauce and swapped out the chips for a feta/pepper bowl which worked perfectly as did the glass of Shiraz that Jo picked out to compliment it for me. Genuinely I can not pick fault (read through my other reviews I write honestly, pick fault where warranted and compliment where due). Had this lovely little find been in our usual local it would surely become a regular haunt ours for sure. I would 100% recommend this place and extend our gratitude to all the staff for making our entire visit memorable and perfect."

"We were in Bury for a few days visiting family and the weather was beautiful , we live on the Wirral and frequently visit Brasco lounge in Liverpool of the same chain , which we love. We actually visited Racconto lounge 3 times on our visit , first time we had a brunch of bacon and egg muffin , which we really enjoyed (although the bacon was very salty) The next day we came back and had a lounge breakfast , and the following day we brought my husbands mum , and drank cups of tea while resting from shopping . We enjoyed all the meals , and its lovely inside , although we ate on the terrace in the sunshine and we found all the staff very pleasant and friendly . But..... we had 2 things let it down for us . Firstly on each occasion , the service was extremely slow, when we had breakfast , it wasn't very busy , but we waited ages , although our tea was brought out well before the food , meaning we then had no drinks to go with the food . The second problem was , after waiting ages , we had to send the breakfast back as it was really cold , and it seemed like it had been sat waiting , almost as long as we had , the bacon on both the breakfast muffin and the breakfast was really , really salty also. None of this would put us off , as we enjoyed the dining experience overall , but if you are in a rush , i really wouldn't recommend eating here , as the wait was alot longer than expected every time ."
