"I can honestly say that I have never given any pub or restaurant such a bad review but unfortunately tonight The Brownlow Arms warrants this one. We arrived at 8pm for our pre-booked table for two, completed the checking in form and waited for someone to acknowledge us. We were completely ignored by the girl behind the bar as she was too busy chatting to her friend about someone who had moved to a barn conversion !! Eventually another member of staff asked for our name and drinks order, then showed us to our table and gave us menus. Nobody came to take our order so we had to ask if this could be done, eventually a waitress arrived and we ordered our food. Almost an hour later, we managed to catch the eye of a member of staff and asked when we could expect our starters, he said that he would go and check but would we like another drink whilst we were waiting. We ordered two drinks and waited for him to return with the drinks and information on where our starters were. Another ten minutes went by and still no food, nor the drinks that we had ordered. We decided that we had been patient enough and told a member of staff that we were not prepared to wait any longer and we left. It appeared as though there was no management at all and what staff there were seemed to have no concept of delivering customer service. There was also minimal safety measures in place, including social distancing. We saw three tables going to the bar to ask for their bills as they had been waiting so long for their bill to be calculated. I cannot comment on the food because we didn't get any !! We are really trying to support local businesses but sadly we will not be returning to The Brownlow Arms. We understand that in the current climate things are a bit more challenging but tonights performance was abysmal."

Sunday lunch was fabulous, with loads of vegetables as well as succulent meat, gravy and Yorkshire pudding. Excellent service and chef Barbara popped out to say Hello. Interestingly, Trip Advisor suggested it was closed today

Visited for a pre booked Sunday lunch. Arrived and signed in as per covid tracking regulations. Then waited for about 5 minutes for a member of staff to acknowledge or seat us. With none forthcoming we followed the 1 way system and eventually came across...

This remains an excellent village pub, with an extensive menu. We ate here 3 times during the week, each meal was well cooked and portion size was adequate. The meals are not cheap but are well worth it. The steaks remain excellent. The pub is dog friendly but I suggest you ring ahead and book a suitable table.Yes, most of the staff are young, but they were pleasant and efficient. Waiting time was acceptable. Please also see my previous (more detailed) 2017 review.

Three of us prebooked for 5.30. Quite busy, people taking advantage of the August half price, and it seemed not enough waiters (one of whom said it was his first day). Long wait to place orders and for food to arrive. Two of the three of us were very happy with their seafood thermidor and beef medallions. I ordered steak. Waiter did not ask whether I wanted well done/.medium/rare. It was a very large, but very rare steak.. The first half I managed. Then it got so tough even the sharp steak knife would not go through and I had to leave it. Another very long wait before we could order desserts. Then told they had run out of custard and ice cream and some of the choices. We waited but eventuall...

We popped in on a Monday night as all the pubs in the immediate area that we usually go to don’t open on a Monday We arrive at 5:30 opening time and were hardly greeted by Shannon We hadn’t booked, but she found us a table There was a lovely selection of beers and wines and an amazing menu with specials of the day On Mondays they do a night where you can get a sirloin steak for £12 with all the trimmings They also specialise in seafood and there were a number of dishes this included prawns lobsters, monkfish et cetera Who made soup of the day was courgette and sweet potato and this is delicious Between us, we had a steak and kidney pie and there’s also an option of a steak and kidney pudding...

We were recommemded this public house by the owners of our holiday cottage. After a reccy visit on Sunday for a few cold beers, we booked a table for tonight. Today, Wednesday 12th August 2020, was meant to be our wedding day (pre-covid19).Staff were polite, helpful and observed appropriate COVID-19 safety precautions including regular hand sanitisation. Our meal, all 3 courses, were cookednfresh to order and tasted devine! The pub is also part of the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, so our three figure meal did not cost as much. The pub is quirky and friendly: adorned with all sorts of decorations and eye-catching ornaments. Whilst we obviously would have wanted our wedding to have gone ahead as...

After pre booking our table we had to wait just inside the door and tried for nearly 10 minutes to get the attention of staff. Order was then taken for our drinks and eventually order was taken for main course. One hour later it arrived!! Two of the meals were good but the third, a steak, was really disgusting. Far too much blood and half the steak was gristle and inedible. When our plates were cleared we complained but nobody came to see us. Eventually we got the desert menu and then another long wait. When we did order, we were told some of the items they had run out of, including most types of ice cream. We did without. Eventually asked for the bill which didn't arrive, so had to queue at...

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
