"We absolutely love the Axe and Compasses and have been coming here for the past ten years. It has always been a favourite of ours and when it closed for refurbishment earlier this year, we were worried it wouldn't be the same. Remarkably, we think it's even better now. The food is fantastic and the refurb is totally in keeping with the building. The only thing we have noticed, on the last few occasions, is that the service has been a little bit lacking in speed and attentiveness. Overall, we thoroughly enjoy our times at the A&C and have brought many friends along, all of whom have totally loved it too."

So we just had dinner here, when we first walked in we thought lovely nice restaurant/pub with a great menu. However, the service was extremely slow...

Had Sunday roast food well cooked and plentiful in terms of quantity. Arrived at table without any delay hot and tasty. Good choice of both different roasts and alternative options .

Our first visit after a friend made a recommendation. Whilst we enjoyed the evening and would return there was a disappointment when one of the main courses was not hot when served. We advised the waitress who took the dish away and it returned having been heated up at a guess in a microwave.

We have often gone to the Axe and Compasses for lunch, or for a cheeky good value midweek evening meal. We are always welcomed warmly and fed well, and so it was the obvious choice for our Christmas dinner this year. The food was great, service organised brilliantly and ot rushed, and as always the atmosphere was fantastic. Cannot thank the entire team enough for a fantastic afternoon.
