"We made a long-overdue visit to Byland Abbey (which I have also reviewed) and were pleased we stopped off for refreshments in The Abbey Inn. Evidently, it was once the village pub, which has been repurposed as the Tea Rooms for the Abbey. It...is located immediately opposite. The snack menus were extensive and looked delicious, although we only had tea and cakes on this occasion but they were excellent, home-made style scones and tray bakes. Tea was plentiful and of excellent quality, and the prices were good. The Inn is atmospheric inside, with large oak tables and wooden armchair-type seats. Flagged floors have survived, and the decor is correct and not too pretty which would be out of keeping with the Abbey opposite. There is an outside sitting area to the rear, which is delightful in good weather. However, the internal seating is not restricted there are three rooms, all with several tables. We are often in North Yorkshire, and will make a point of returning to The Abbey Inn, maybe for lunch next time."

A warm welcome awaited us as we visited Byland Abbey. Just dropped in for tea and scones and enjoyed the treat. Lovely service and waitress full of local information. Very nice.

I recommend the Yorkshire Platter. go on try it!! I certainly was filling. Lovely old rooms overlooking the Abbey Ruins. Patio for the sun seekers too. Friendly and helpful service.

we called in when passing on a wet september after. We had lovely cream tea and cake for a very reasonable price. Our little yorkie was made very welcome too. A lovely place to stop if you are in the area.

we have booked here, but canceled when we realized that this was not really an inn. no personal in front of location after breakfast, no bar or dining room. only a caffe really and extremely misrepresented. caveat emptor.

a tee room located over the street from byland abbey is the main advantage of its location. tee and cake were good, but the toilet of men needed a bit of attention. no soap, only hand cream, and the only way to dry the hands was exposed with the two old hand towels above the heat sink.

No visit to Byland Abbey would be complete without a visit to the Abbey Inn, now a tea room and guest accommodation. It was a gorgeous afternoon so we sat outside in the sheltered garden and had a soft drink and a huge slice of...homemade Victoria Sponge. There is a good range of food on the menu for lunch and sweet treats as well as a good selection of drinks.

very disappointing on Sunday lunch the meat was hard and dry, everything was reheated roasted potatoes were dark in color, but soft, others were under-boiled, and all blurred too much (Bisto-Grotte. the pork had no cracks, and there was no bark sauce for the bark, which was well done. it was cold in the restaurant and we were the only diners for most meals, so no atmosphere. the personal was fabulous and scary. we do not recommend it and do not return to the foreseeable future.

The former village pub, directly opposite the Abbey ruins now serves light lunches and afternoon teas. It has been expensively refurbished by the owners English Heritage with comfortable modern oak furniture (lots of scatter cushions Service was quick, the cakes delicious and the toilets immaculate....The Inn shares its car park with visitors to the abbey. Although there is level access from the main road, there are a couple of steps down to reach the restrooms unavoidable in an old historic building. Wheelchair users may need to exist and re-enter via the garden entrance. We look forward to our next visit.
