"Having grown up in the south of England, I became very used to a certain sort of pub. Not posh, not trendy, just somewhere welcoming where you could enjoy a drink or two. On coming to Scotland, I’ve never quite found the equivalent drinking establishment. Teuchters has changed my mind. It was set up some 7 years ago by two Highlanders Peter Knight, who originally hails from Halkirk near Thurso and John Tindal, from Airlie near Kirriemuir. Not sure of what to call the place, they opted for Teuchters after a comment from John’s brother. An ironic touch perhaps as this expression is used lowland Scots to describe someone from the Highlands, and not always in a complementary way. John and Peter came up with the concept of the Room in restaurants in the West End and Leith and opened Teuchters Landing in 2008. What John and Peter are aiming to do is provide a home from home. There are local papers from all over Scotland to make you feel that bit more welcome. If you’ve been down to the Shore and surrounding area in Leith recently, you’ll know just how busy it can be, so if you can, come on a weekday or reserve a table. There’s a deck outside where you can chill when the weather is bright and warm (Peter was down on his hands and knees revarnishing it whilst we were there). And so to breakfast or brunch. This is served from 10:30 am each day. The menu labelled “Big Brekkie” is varied, comforting and very good value. They believe in giving you proper (dare I say) man-sized portions. Each dish is freshly made, so it’s not, perhaps, somewhere to go when you’re in a rush! Many ingredients are organic and local producers get a name check. You can start small with a bowl of porridge or venture to the Big Carnivores Plate or Big Vegetarian Plate. As it was pancake day, I chose pancakes, maple syrup and bacon. The pancakes were light and fluffy, the bacon properly crisp and the maple syrup a lovely sweet touch. Brendan was in the mood for pulled pork. This arrived on a wooden platter with some very good chips and 3 pots to dip into: coleslaw, barbecue and apple. The barbecue sauce was perhaps a touch vinegary for my taste. The pork however, was meltingly tender and had a tomato-y taste. We also gazed at the scrambled egg and smoked salmon. This had been my first choice before I decided to go with the pancakes. Cooked simply, this was an attractive more-ish dish. Busy the time we left, the lunchtime crowd was filling the tables. We went back out to the bar, which I had somehow managed to walk through without really taking it in and gazed at the board listing all the malts they stock, there are quirky signs about the place – all very pleasing indeed."

I ordered the gluten-free fish and chips, and they were absolutely delicious. There were plenty of gluten-free options available, and even some of my friends who eat gluten tried some dishes and really enjoyed their meals. The service was excellent as well. I highly recommend this place!

One day, after walking the Water of Leith Walk till the Shore in Leith, we stopped for lunch at Teuchter's Landing. It was a super sunny day, so we took the opportunity to sit in the sun, on the little platform on the water, to enjoy some lovely veggie curries in a mug. As delicious as they look... Still need to go back for their famous Beast Burger :

The gluten-free options weren't clearly marked, but the staff were very helpful when asked. I recommend ordering at the bar instead of using the app if you're going gluten-free. I tried the gluten-free fish and chips, and they were absolutely delicious—light, flavorful, fresh, and a generous portion. It was also dog-friendly, which was perfect for us. Overall, great food, a nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

I visited this restaurant on a beautiful sunny evening in July and I can't recommend it highly enough! You can place your order through a QR code at your table, and there is a whole section of the menu dedicated to gluten-free options. The selection was quite good, though it mostly featured fried items like fish and chips and calamari. My only suggestion is to arrive a bit early if you're planning to go on a nice weather day, as seating is first come, first served and tends to fill up quickly. The restaurant also offers an extensive wine and alcohol list if that piques your interest!

Teuchters Landing is quickly becoming a lunchtime favourite, the food is reasonably priced and there's a wide selection of wines and spirits (although not always important for lunch). I'm a sucker for a good chicken burger, the lighter way to enjoy lunch and have had many satisfying lunches at Touchers. No photos on this occasion, I'm always too busy eating the burger to to document it. Whisky lovers should try their luck with the hoop of destiny, toss the hoop on to the bottles and drink whatever you land on, if you luck out and miss the premium range you still get a wee dram for your investment.

oh teuchters landing, my place on a sunny day in leith. They have a brilliant beer garden right on the oat and always many tables also around the corner. I spent a lot of afternoons and chased there with a gin in the hand. the perfect way to spend a lazy, sunny afternoon to be fair. I still have to try right, but ordered a part of chips that was quite a lot for a person. Not that I will sue you! they were fresh, hot and clobular. the perfect chips you would say. it is really nice inside and have a great selection of whiskys and cigars when this is your kind of thing! a must visit place when they are in good old sunny leith.

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
