"At 19:50 on 26th June, I ordered £38 worth of food from Sweet Basil Chinese, the delivery was scheduled for 20:55. Approximately 21:20 I contacted the restaurant regarding an update, which I was told the food was on it way. Unfortunately, still nothing. Approximately 21:50, I contacted the restaurant again in relation to my delivery, in which they responded that the food has been delivered. When I explained that the food hasn't been delivered, they treated me like I was lying, the owner of the restaurant refused to speak with me, refused to cook new food or offered a refund, after speaking with the Manager Tommy, they eventually agreed they would send the driver back to my address to see if I'm the person he handed the food over too (the driver even explained the description of the person who he handed the food too, which was the complete opposite to me), which they agreed if I wasn't, they would cook new food for me etc 20 minutes after, the driver arrived and agreed that I wasn't the person and that be confirmed he handed the food over to someone else completely. The driver contacted the restaurant from my property and explained the situation, the boss said, if the driver doesn't pay the £38, I wouldn't be issued with a refund or new food cooked. The driver then quit the job on my doorstep as he agreed the boss is a horrible man and agreed he would pay the £38, I then call Tommy back and ask for an update, which they refused to issue a refund or cook new food, after serval conversation, they finally agreed they would cancel my order and issue a refund, in which, they began explaining that they couldn't because their Just Eat Panel wasn't working. I contacted them two days later in good faith and explained to them, I have found out who the person who took the food in case they wanted to send a driver and try and get their money back, to be told I am banned from the restaurant. Personally, I would stand clear of this restaurant, if there is anything wrong with your order, they will not be helpful and you will waste 3.5 hours of your evening arguing with the owner. If you don't believe me, check their Google reviews, which explains it all."

Avoid like the plague. Late delivery (very late). Blamed the weather (very dry and calm night), showing dishonesty. Food was cold and not enjoyable. Owner refuses to accept criticism and to give refund. NEVER AGAIN.

Take Away Delivered within 25 minutes of placing order, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Ordered over £32 of food and no complaints from anyone, Free bottle of Pepsi was an unexpected bonus. Happy to recommend. Thanks!

Just moved to the area and was looking for a new Chinese to try on Saturday night. Was pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend Sweet Basil! Great tasting food and was given a free bottle of Pepsi and fortune cookies Voir le carte

The delivery was on time even earlier. The order came with chinese cookies and snack. The noodles with king prawn was excellent but can’t say the same for sweet&sour chicken balls as you can feel was added more vinegar and the mixed vegetables fried rice haven’t got any soya sauce.

Excellent food delivered very quickly. Reasonable prices and portion sizes. I have seen poor reviews of this place, mainly due to delivery. I can only speak as I find. I have ordered here many times without problem and in fact prefer here than other local takeaways because of food quality.

I had a home delivery Chinese last night. A few minutes (too quick) after placing the order it arrived, only when I opened it up found it was the wrong order of course. I must have someone else's meal. A quick phone call and after a short while they delivered mine and took away the wrong one. Everyone makes mistakes, but you do not always get such good service putting them right. Well Done Sweet Basil. And the food was excellent too. Voir le carte

Never one to leave reviews but I can't believe this place only has 2 stars, the best food.. So tasty and consistently good everytime. Would't go to any other chinese! We have tried so many but always end up back at Sweet Basil. Our order is chicken satay skewers, sweet chilli beef, salt and pepper prawn, prawn toast, special fried rice, pork udon noodle and sometimes duck, sweet and sour prawn and Ribs in BBQ Sauce.... amazing everytime. Thank you Sweet Basil

We had used this takeaway a few times and were relatively happy with the quality of food. Last Friday (12/02/21) we ordered nearly £40 of food and waited 2 hours for it to arrive. When it finally did arrive, every item was stone cold, and needed to be reheated. So so far this doesn 't sound too bad, but not great, right? We had always found the service and the food to be good in the past and I didn 't want to be put off using them again so I called to complain and resolve the issue. The person taking the call had absolutely no interest in dealing with the complaint. they were clearly only interested in taking other orders. "Very disappointed with food quality and service. We had booked a table for 13 people, 3 of which which were children. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely waitress who took us to our seats, but then proceeded to ask us to pass the plates and cutlery down the table to where the other guests were yet to arrive. So we set half of the tables, which is bizarre to ask a customer, but she was a lovely girl so it wasn 't a big deal at the time...until things went really downhill. We ordered 3 x £40 mixed grill platters which are meant to serve 3 4 people and asked for rice only, no bulgar. All 3 platters were brought with half rice and half bulgar; we asked the waitress to correct this, and she was apologetic and came back with a bowl of half rice and half bulgar again, we asked for rice on, so she went back and got a bowl of rice. Bearing in mind each platter is meant to serve 3 4 people, I struggled to serve the children an adequate portion they had 2 tablespoons of rice each; that 's how much rice was served with the large grill. My 10 year old niece then pulled out a long strand of hair from the kofteh she was about to eat; absolutely disgusting! Unsurprisingly, the cook wasn 't wearing a hair net, which I presume is standard?? I tried to be tactile and not draw too much attention to the situation to other eating customers, so quietly pulled the waitress aside and gave her the hair; she apologised and had another kofteh cooked (actually felt sorry for the girl, she looked mortified). The crunch came when we went to eat the chicken wings and baby chicken so many were raw pink and red raw meat! We told the waitress and she was insistent that it was cooked, but took it back believe me we have cooked chicken before and know what raw meat is. We were shocked when the same chicken was re cooked and then served back to us bear in mind, by this point the chicken had already cooled down from the first time it was cooked, centre was raw, and then re cooked and served again! There was no way we would 've touched it; also keep in mind that some of the chicken had come off different guests ' plates and were bitten into how were we supposed to know which piece was who 's?? So bizarre, I 've never had this happen, even in the cheapest small café. By this time to be honest we were off our food. The meat wasn 't great really; some was ok; the chicken shish was ok, the lamb chops were also ok; the chicken kofteh had no flavour; the kofteh was very greasy; the rice was wet. On a high note, the lahumajun was lovely and so were the dips and bread. When it came to the bill, we made it clear the chicken should be taken off, as none was eaten by anyone. When the waitress came and handed the bill over and was asked if the chicken was removed from the bill, her response was I 'm just a worker who else are we supposed to ask then? Why the attitude?! We had the right to complain after being served raw meat! The cook/owner then came over, leaned over me, with a plate of chicken hovering above my head and my face in his armpit, and started to argue with another guest that we didn 't ask for the chicken to be well done; no spacial awareness or respect for one 's space whatsoever. I didn 't realise we had to request for our chicken not to be raw; absolutely ridiculous. He knocked off £15 and for a £170 bill and the awful experience, I think that was insulting. He then knocked off a bit more, and we just accepted as wanted to get out of there. The same waitress came back and cleared the table, slamming the plates onto the trays no manners whatsoever and clearly showing she 's pissed off. Such a shame; all other guests witnessed this while they were trying to eat; could 've been totally avoidable. Why risk your reputation? I 've never had to ever make a complaint like this before, let alone write such a review. If you choose to eat here, check your meat is thoroughly cooked, or you 'll be poisoned!"
