"The meals we had were less than satisfactory. The scallops (starter)were rubbery and swimming in butter. The child’s burger (main meal) was dry as were the very crispy chips, as though they had been in an oven all afternoon and were completely inedible . The sausage was tasteless with chewy skin. The fish burger didn’t taste of anything and again chips were dried to a cinder. Two fish pies were ok but not much fish in there to be honest and vegetables were cold. Two of us had two small glasses of red wine. Five of us had prawn cocktails for a starter. Most of the food was left on the plates it was so bad.The manager took off the bill, one adult meal and one child meal and charged a child meal price for the sausages and still the bill was £140.00!! We’ve never had such a poor meal in The Mermaid for such an extortionate price. I’m not sure of the hygiene levels either since there was no soap in either the ladies or the men’s toilets. Would not recommend."

"Let’s start with the good. Menu is good and our server was very nice. The rest was just awful. My wife ordered a salad with extra tomatoes. The salad shows up with 1/2 a spoonful of tomatoes. She also ordered broccoli as a side. It shows up cold. I ordered a French Dip sandwich. The prime rib was so undercooked it was disgusting. I asked for well done crispy fries. I received lukewarm undercooked fries. I ordered coleslaw. After mentioning that it didn’t come out with my meal, it comes 15 minutes later. We asked to speak with the manager. She gives us a $25 voucher for the next time (which is useless since we’re traveling and don’t have a location in our state). She also gives us a free piece of chocolate cake with ice cream. My wife asked to leave the ice cream off. The cake shows up with ice cream. The chocolate cake was some strange concoction that tasted like mush. This was certainly the worst restaurant that I’ve been to in 10 years. No exaggeration… just awful"

"Longstone is situated a 30-minute walk from Hugh Town, with a small car park available. It is a great spot for families with young children, offering swings, a climbing frame, and a spacious play area. The restaurant has plenty of tables with sun shades for outdoor dining. The menu is similar to other cafes on the island and our order was promptly delivered. Accessibility may be challenging for those with mobility issues. The food was fresh and reasonably priced, with their crab sandwiches being a standout item."

"This place was a massive surprise with gorgeous food and dog friendly. From the outside The Rising Sun looks like an average village pub, but upon entry you realise that it’s not your average pub. The food although not cheap, was gorgeous this is an understatement we had a very warm welcome upon entering the pub by whom I assume was the owner or manager. He was extremely passionate about the ability of the chef and extremely knowledgeable about the food on offer as well as the drinks available. I would definitely recommend a visit to this hidden delight and we will certainly be back for a visit next year"

"I encourage you to go out of your way to visit this cafe if in the area and if not, plan a trip to Cornwall to take in this amazing fayre. A very good selection of vegan cakes and hot food dishes amongst veggie and meat options. Very fresh, organic and local food. I had mustardy mushrooms on sourdough with a kale pesto for breakfast (new menu from today) and it was delicious. Cakes, coffees and other drinks all totally delicious. The atmosphere in the cafe was wonderful. Great staff friendly and lovely vibe in between the team and to customers. Clearly a very well known and loved cafe in the area. I was here to paddleboard for a couple of days and was amazed, impressed and in awe of this cafe in all fronts. Truly award winning. Thank you Olive Co. I will most certainly be back. You made me feel so welcome and I am delighted by the full lunchbox of cakes I will be taking home with me tomorrow along with some of the local artists work on sale in the display area. A total gem in this magical landscape. Well worth a visit."
